Evaluation of drought tolerance in sugarcane genotypes using the membership function value of drought tolerance (MFVD)

Chaohua Xu et al.

Summary: Drought tolerance in 138 elite sugarcane hybrids was determined using the membership function value of drought tolerance. Five traits were found to be closely related to drought resistance and could be used as indicators for screening drought-resistant cultivars. Ten sugarcane hybrids were identified as highly drought-resistant, while 14 genotypes were highly susceptible to drought, providing ideal materials for studying the mechanisms of drought sensitivity in sugarcane.

KEGG for taxonomy-based analysis of pathways and genomes

Minoru Kanehisa et al.

Summary: KEGG is a manually curated database resource that integrates various biological objects classified into systems, genomic, chemical, and health information. Through the KEGG identifier and URL links, users can retrieve and browse information for different biological objects, including pathway maps, hierarchy, and genomes. KEGG has also improved KO assignment annotation and included more eukaryotic genomes for better representation of organisms in the taxonomic tree. The taxonomy mapping enables analysis of the conservation of functional and physical links among genes in different organism groups.

Candidate gene association of gene expression data in sugarcane contrasting for sucrose content

Supaporn Khanbo et al.

Summary: Association mapping of gene expression data from transcriptome and proteome studies is used to understand the functional significance and trait association potential of candidate genes. In this study, candidate gene association mapping was applied to validate sugarcane genes, identifying favorable alleles and supporting genetic improvement of sugarcane and clarification of the genetic architecture of sugar-related traits. The Fixed and random model Circulating Probability Unification model effectively suppressed false positives for both low and high-heritability traits.

Overexpression of OsUGT3 enhances drought and salt tolerance through modulating ABA synthesis and scavenging ROS in rice

Ting Wang et al.

Summary: The glycosyltransferase UGT3 in plants plays an important role in response to drought and salt stresses, by increasing endogenous ABA levels, enhancing antioxidant enzyme activities, and reducing reactive oxygen species production. UGT3 may cope with abiotic stresses through a possible interactive network involving ABA, ROS, and antioxidants.

Identification of Candidate Gene-Based Markers for Girth Growth in Rubber Trees

Gunlayarat Bhusudsawang et al.

Summary: This study performed candidate gene association mapping for girth growth in rubber trees using ILP markers and identified COBL064_1 marker as the strongest associated with girth growth. Through CCS analysis, a SNP in the 3' UTR showing linkage disequilibrium with COBL064_1 was pinpointed. The study demonstrated that ILP gene-based markers can assist in identifying SNPs in candidate genes associated with girth growth and provide useful markers for improvement in rubber tree breeding programs.
