lncRNASNP v3: an updated database for functional variants in long non-coding RNAs

Yanbo Yang et al.

Summary: Long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) are versatile regulators in various biological processes and play crucial roles in diseases. The updated version 3 of lncRNASNP provides a comprehensive repository of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and somatic mutations in lncRNAs, along with their impacts on lncRNA structure and function. The database now includes eight eukaryotic species, expanded SNP data, and several new features, such as SNP effects on miRNA-lncRNA interactions, lncRNA expression profiles, disease and GWAS-associated lncRNAs and variants, experimental and predicted lncRNAs and drug target associations, and SNP effects on lncRNA expression across tumor and normal tissues.

LncRNA LZTS1-AS1 induces proliferation, metastasis and inhibits autophagy of pancreatic cancer cells through the miR-532/TWIST1 signaling pathway

Hui Wu et al.

Summary: The 5-year survival rate for pancreatic cancer (PANC) is less than 5% and identifying novel oncogenes is crucial for improving patient survival. This study found that the lncRNA LZTS1-AS1 is upregulated in PANC tissues and cells, and its increased expression is associated with poor prognosis. LZTS1-AS1 promotes PANC cell proliferation, oncogenicity, migration, invasion, while inhibiting apoptosis and autophagy. In contrast, miR-532 has the opposite effect, and its inhibition counteracts the effects of LZTS1-AS1 on PANC cells. The study also identified TWIST1 as a target of LZTS1-AS1 mediated by miR-532. The findings provide new biomarkers and therapeutic targets for PANC.

LncRNA miR663AHG represses the development of colon cancer in a miR663a-dependent manner

Hongfan Yuan et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that miR663AHG is mainly distributed in the nucleus of colon cancer cells and is positively correlated with miR663a. The expression level of miR663AHG is downregulated in colon cancer tissues and is associated with advanced disease stage, lymph metastasis, and shorter overall survival. Furthermore, miR663AHG can inhibit colon cancer cell proliferation, migration, and invasion, and its function is mediated through its binding to miR663a/pre-miR663a.

The Role of Long Noncoding RNAs on Male Infertility: A Systematic Review and In Silico Analysis

Maria-Anna Kyrgiafini et al.

Summary: Male infertility is a complex disorder that affects many couples worldwide. Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) play important regulatory roles in male infertility, but there is limited understanding of their exact role in the condition. This systematic review examines differential expressions of lncRNAs in male infertility and variations in lncRNA regions associated with it. The review found that many lncRNAs are deregulated in male infertility and that interactions between lncRNAs and miRNAs are significant. Additionally, the review identified certain lncRNAs that are differentially expressed in multiple subtypes of male infertility and their association with bladder and prostate cancer. However, more research is needed to understand the precise mechanisms of these lncRNAs and investigate the link between male infertility and cancer.

Mechanism and Role of the Neuropeptide LGI1 Receptor ADAM23 in Regulating Biomarkers of Ferroptosis and Progression of Esophageal Cancer

Chen Chen et al.

Summary: This study identified a ceRNA network associated with ferroptosis in esophgeal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) and constructed an FPI scoring model reflecting the activity of the ferroptosis pathway. Results showed that low expression of ADAM23 and ARHGEF26-AS1, and high expression of miR-372-3p were correlated with poor prognosis in EC patients. Functionally, overexpression of ADAM23 and ARHGEF26-AS1, as well as inhibition of miR-372-3p, promoted ferroptosis and inhibited proliferation and migration of ESCC cells. Mechanistically, ARHGEF26-AS1 upregulated ADAM23 expression by competitively binding to miR-372-3p.
