Epigenomic charting and functional annotation of risk loci in renal cell carcinoma

Amin H. Nassar et al.

Summary: This study explores the epigenome of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) and identifies histology-specific master transcription factors (MTFs). Integration of RCC GWAS risk SNPs with epigenomic data reveals enrichment of risk variants in allelically-imbalanced peaks.

Downstream Targets of VHL/HIF-α Signaling in Renal Clear Cell Carcinoma Progression: Mechanisms and Therapeutic Relevance

Sonia Mazumder et al.

Summary: Mutations in the VHL gene contribute to the development of renal cell carcinoma, particularly the clear cell variant. HIF-2 alpha plays a crucial role in promoting tumor progression and metastasis in these cases. Inhibiting HIF-2 alpha and its associated molecular pathways can be an effective strategy to suppress the aggressiveness of ccRCC.

Summary: The American Cancer Society predicts that there will be 1,958,310 new cancer cases and 609,820 cancer deaths in the United States in 2023. While incidence trends for most cancers are favorable, prostate cancer saw a significant increase of 3% annually from 2014 to 2019. However, the overall cancer death rate continues to decline due to advances in treatment, with a 33% reduction since 1991.

METTL3 Inhibits Antitumor Immunity by Targeting m6A-BHLHE41-CXCL1/CXCR2 Axis to Promote Colorectal Cancer

Huarong Chen et al.

Summary: This study identifies METTL3 as a potential therapeutic target for CRC immunotherapy. Silencing or inhibiting METTL3 reduces MDSC accumulation, sustains activation and proliferation of CD4(+) and CD8(+) T cells, and ultimately suppresses CRC development. Inhibition of METTL3 plus anti-PD1 treatment shows promising antitumor efficacy against CRC.

BHLHE41/DEC2 Expression Induces Autophagic Cell Death in Lung Cancer Cells and Is Associated with Favorable Prognosis for Patients with Lung Adenocarcinoma

Toshiyuki Nagata et al.

Summary: The study shows that BHLHE41 expression in normal lung tissues is higher than in lung adenocarcinoma tissues, and is associated with better overall survival in patients. In non-small cell lung cancer, BHLHE41 expression helps prevent malignant progression of early lung tumors.
