Genomic characterization and assessment of pathogenic potential of Legionella spp. isolates from environmental monitoring

Ema Svetlicic et al.

Summary: Using high-throughput sequencing and genomic analysis, this study identified several potential new species in the genus Legionella, which have not yet been biochemically and morphologically characterized. Functional annotations were also performed on the sequenced genomes, revealing their virulence and antimicrobial resistance. This research contributes to the understanding of little-known non-pneumophila species present in man-made water systems.

Influence of the Antimicrobial LL-37 Peptide on Legionella dumoffii Phospholipids Adsorbed at the Air-Liquid Interface

Katarzyna Pastuszak et al.

Summary: Legionella dumoffii is an intracellular pathogen capable of infecting mammalian cells and causing Legionnaires' disease. The pathomechanism of infection development depends on factors including the structure and properties of macromolecules in the cell envelope. Phospholipids play a significant role in membrane integrity and host cell interactions. L. dumoffii can change its lipid profile in response to external factors, such as the presence of exogenous choline.
