Mechanisms underlying the pathophysiology of type 2 diabetes: From risk factors to oxidative stress, metabolic dysfunction, and hyperglycemia

Jessica E. B. F. Lima et al.

Summary: Type 2 diabetes is a complex disease influenced by genetic and environmental factors, with obesity, lifestyle, and aging being major risk factors. Hyperglycemia, oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction, endoplasmic reticulum stress, and inflammation play important roles in the development and complications of type 2 diabetes.

Cyanidin-3-O-Glucoside Ameliorates Palmitic-Acid-Induced Pancreatic Beta Cell Dysfunction by Modulating CHOP-Mediated Endoplasmic Reticulum Stress Pathways

Yunan Chen et al.

Summary: This study found that C3G can improve pancreatic beta cell function and alleviate cell apoptosis by regulating the PERK pathway and CHOP expression. These findings provide a theoretical basis for the potential application of C3G in the treatment of diabetes.

Dietary Therapy in Prevention of Cardiovascular Disease (CVD)-Tradition or Modernity? A Review of the Latest Approaches to Nutrition in CVD

Elzbieta Szczepanska et al.

Summary: Improper dietary behavior can influence the development of cardiovascular diseases, but certain food components can have cardioprotective effects. Polyphenols, most abundant in multicolored vegetables and fruits, have been shown to lower blood pressure, improve lipid profile, and regenerate vascular endothelium. Therefore, maintaining a varied diet can help prevent cardiovascular diseases.

Association between childhood overweight/obesity and urbanization in developing countries: evidence from Bangladesh

Md. Belal Hossain et al.

Summary: The study found that childhood OWOB prevalence was higher in highly urbanized districts in Bangladesh, with a 53% increased risk of OWOB in highly urbanized areas compared to low urbanization areas. The results suggest the importance of developing context-specific prevention programs and policies to mitigate the adverse effects of urbanization on childhood overnutrition in LMICs like Bangladesh. Future research is needed to understand the causal relationship between urbanization and OWOB.

Natural products in diabetes research: quantitative literature analysis

Andy Wai Kan Yeung et al.

Summary: The study identified the major contributors and research directions related to diabetes therapy in academic journals by analyzing bibliometric data from the Web of Science online database. Curcumin, flavanone, resveratrol, carotenoid, polyphenols, flavonol, flavone, and berberine were found to be the most frequently cited natural products or compound classes in relation to diabetes therapy research. The results provide insights into the major research directions and potential avenues for future research in natural products for diabetes.
