Senescent chondrogenic progenitor cells derived from articular cartilage of knee osteoarthritis patients contributes to senescence-associated secretory phenotype via release of IL-6 and IL-8

Justin Jacob et al.

Summary: Despite the presence of chondrogenic progenitor cells (CPCs) in knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients, they are unable to repair damaged cartilage. This study found that CPCs in OA showed elevated levels of oxidative stress, cellular senescence, and senescence-associated secretory phenotype (SASP), which were correlated with increased production of intracellular ROS and the release of proinflammatory cytokines. These findings highlight the importance of CPCs in the process of cartilage repair in OA.

Salivary IL-8 and IL-1RA changes induced by exercise in cold-dry and normal conditions

I. Patlan et al.

Summary: This study compared the effects of exercise in cold-dry and normal conditions on salivary cytokine levels and airway response in young healthy males. The results showed that IL-8 levels increased in normal conditions but not in cold-dry conditions, while the opposite trend was observed for IL-1RA.

The Chemokine Systems at the Crossroads of Inflammation and Energy Metabolism in the Development of Obesity

Pei-Chi Chan et al.

Summary: Obesity is characterized by excessive accumulation of adipose tissue with alterations in immune and metabolic responses. The role of chemokines and chemokine receptors in obesity-related inflammation and metabolism dysregulation is complex and not fully understood. Understanding these mechanisms could lead to potential therapeutic targets for controlling immune and metabolic disorders associated with obesity in the future.
