Identification of Important Genes Involved in the Sex-Differentiation Mechanism of Oriental River Prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense, During the Gonad Differentiation and Development Period

Shubo Jin et al.

Summary: In this study, the sensitive period of gonad differentiation and development in M. nipponense was determined, and important genes involved in this process were identified through transcriptome profiling analysis. qPCR analysis revealed high expression levels of Mn-JHEH, Mn-DHP, Mn-ALY, and Mn-SMA6 during the sensitive period, and RNAi analysis showed that SMA6 positively regulated testis development in M. nipponense. These findings provide valuable evidence for the establishment of techniques to regulate gonad development in M. nipponense.

Summary: This study profiles the transcriptional changes associated with embryonic development and sexual differentiation in the giant freshwater prawn M. rosenbergii. It identifies co-expressed gene modules representing physiological processes in early embryonic development and hundreds of differentially expressed genes between sexes. The results provide insights for future studies on the embryonic development and sexual differentiation in M. rosenbergii.

A sex-reversing factor: insulin-like androgenic gland hormone in decapods

Rong Sun et al.

Summary: Decapod crustaceans exhibit sexual dimorphism in body size, with some species possessing strong invasive ability that can damage ecosystems. Insulin-like androgenic gland hormone plays a key role in sex differentiation and other functions in decapods, and has important applications in cultivation. Research on the structure, function, application, and molecular regulation mechanism of this hormone has attracted significant attention in recent years.

Insulin-like androgenic gland hormone from the shrimp Fenneropenaeus merguiensis: Expression, gene organization and transcript variants

Tingting Zhou et al.

Summary: Male sex differentiation in crustaceans is mainly controlled by the insulin-like androgenic gland hormone (IAG). In this study, the cDNA and gene of the shrimp FmIAG were analyzed, revealing different transcript variants and the potential impact of splicing of intron 4. The expression of FmIAG was found to be influenced by factors like eyestalk ablation and CHH-like gene, with implications for male growth regulation in shrimp aquaculture.

Autism-Associated Vigilin Depletion Impairs DNA Damage Repair

Shahid Banday et al.

Summary: Vigilin plays a crucial role in DNA damage repair in cells, with its depletion leading to increased sensitivity to cisplatin or ionizing radiation-induced cell death and genomic instability. This depletion also affects the repair process of DNA breaks and the recruitment of DDR proteins RAD51 and BRCA1 to DNA damage sites.

The significant sex-biased expression pattern of Sp-Wnt4 provides novel insights into the ovarian development of mud crab (Scylla Paramamosain)

Ardavan Farhadi et al.

Summary: In this study, the wingless-type MMTV integration site family member-4 (Wnt4) gene was cloned and functionally studied in mud crab (Scylla paramamosain). The expression of Sp-Wnt4 was found to play crucial roles in ovarian development, with differential expression levels in different tissues and developmental stages. Unilateral eyestalk ablation also affected the expression of Sp-Wnt4 in testis and gill of female crabs. In situ hybridization assay revealed the localization of Sp-Wnt4 transcripts in the cytoplasm of oocyte cells.

Identification and Characterization of the Succinate Dehydrogenase Complex Iron Sulfur Subunit B Gene in the Oriental River Prawn, Macrobrachium nipponense

Shubo Jin et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown the potential role of SDHB in male sexual development in M. nipponense by providing ATP. This study further analyzed the functions of Mn-SDHB using qPCR, in situ hybridization, western-blot, and RNAi, finding that SDHB is crucial for testis development and sperm production. The research also suggests that SDHB has positive regulatory effects on male sexual development by influencing the expression of Mn-IAG.

Transcriptome Profiling Analysis of the Testis After Eyestalk Ablation for Selection of the Candidate Genes Involved in the Male Sexual Development in Macrobrachium nipponense

Shubo Jin et al.

Summary: The eyestalk of crustacean species plays a significant role in the regulation of male sexual development, with its ablation leading to increased vigor in testis development. Transcriptome profiling revealed differentially expressed genes and enriched metabolic pathways, indicating a more pronounced regulatory effect of double-side eyestalk ablation. The study also highlighted the positive regulatory effect of NFkB alpha on testis development in Macrobrachium nipponense.
