Lower levels of small HDL particles associated with increased infectious disease morbidity and mortality: a population-based cohort study of 30 195 individuals

Mads Harslof et al.

Summary: This study used NMR spectroscopy to measure HDL particle counts in 30,195 Danish individuals and further subdivided them according to particle size. The study found that a decrease in the number of small and medium HDL particles was associated with an increased incidence and mortality of infectious diseases. This suggests that low levels of HDL cholesterol may affect the risk of infectious diseases.

Analysis of expression profiles and bioinformatics suggests that plasma exosomal circular RNAs may be involved in ischemic stroke in the Chinese Han population

Bingyi Xu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the expression profile of exosomal circRNAs in plasma of the Chinese Han population with ischemic stroke (IS). The results revealed that differentially expressed circRNAs may be involved in the pathogenesis of IS. Bioinformatics analysis indicated that the parental genes of these differentially expressed circRNAs, as well as the mRNAs in the circRNA-miRNA-mRNA regulatory network, were enriched in signaling pathways associated with IS pathology. Several hub genes were also identified, suggesting their potential roles in the development of IS.

Resolution of apolipoprotein A1 and A2 proteoforms: their cardiometabolic correlates and implications for future research

John T. Wilkins et al.

Summary: This review discusses the cataloging of apoA1 and apoA2 proteoforms and their associations with cardiometabolic health characteristics. A broad spectrum of proteoforms has been characterized, and their relative abundance can vary between individuals. Specific proteoforms have been found to be associated with cardiometabolic characteristics, independent of absolute apolipoprotein abundance. These findings suggest that protein structural variation may be important markers or mediators of cardiometabolic health. Further understanding of the associations between apolipoprotein proteoforms and phenotype may lead to the discovery of novel markers and mechanisms for modifying lipid metabolism and reducing ASCVD risk.

Curcumin promotes AApoAII amyloidosis and peroxisome proliferation in mice by activating the PPARα signaling pathway

Jian Dai et al.

Summary: The study found that curcumin supplementation significantly increased amyloid deposition of AApoAII, especially in the liver and spleen. This effect may be mediated through the PPARα pathway, leading to increased expression of Apoa2 mRNA. Additionally, curcumin supplementation also resulted in elevated levels of liver weights and plasma ApoA-II and high-density lipoprotein concentrations.
