Investigation of the Antineoplastic Effects of 2-(4-Chlorophenyl)-13α-Estrone Sulfamate against the HPV16-Positive Human Invasive Cervical Carcinoma Cell Line SiHa

Hazhmat Ali et al.

Summary: Cervical carcinoma is a common gynecological cancer in women of reproductive age. This study investigated the antineoplastic properties of 13a-estrone sulfamate derivatives (13AES1-3) and explored the mechanism of action for the most promising compound 13AES3. Results showed that 13AES3 exhibited significant proapoptotic, antimigratory, and anti-invasive effects on SiHa cervical cancer cells. This compound may serve as a valuable lead molecule for the design of anticancer agents targeting cervical carcinomas.

The Structural Diversity and Biological Activity of Steroid Oximes

Ana R. Gomes et al.

Summary: Steroids and their derivatives, including steroidal oximes, have attracted extensive research interest due to their pharmacological properties. Oximes, with the formula R1R2C=N-OH, are colorless crystals that are poorly soluble in water. They can be easily obtained through the condensation of aldehydes or ketones with various amine derivatives, making them interesting in medicinal chemistry for drug design. This review focuses on the biological activities of steroidal oximes, such as anticancer, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antifungal, and antiviral activities, as well as their mechanisms of action. It also provides an overview of oxime chemistry and describes several steroidal oximes in clinical trials or used as drugs.

Steroid-triazole conjugates: A brief overview of synthesis and their application as anticancer agents

Devesh S. Agarwal et al.

Summary: Steroids are biomolecules that play important roles in physiology and drug discovery. Research on steroid-heterocycle conjugates as potential therapeutic agents, especially anticancer agents, has increased over the past few decades. This review summarizes the synthesis, anticancer activity, and structure-activity relationship (SAR) of various steroid-triazole conjugates against different cancer cell lines. It provides a foundation for the development of steroid-heterocycle conjugates with reduced side effects and improved efficacy.

Pathogenesis of Triple-Negative Breast Cancer

Fatemeh Derakhshan et al.

Summary: This article introduces the heterogeneity of triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) and discusses its histologic, molecular classifications, and genomic alterations. The article also explores the role of the tumor microenvironment in TNBC and its potential impact on therapeutic response. Understanding the biology of each TNBC subtype is essential for delivering personalized medicine to patients.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.

Prevalence of Molecular Subtypes of Breast Carcinoma and Its Comparison between Two Different Age Groups: A Retrospective Study from a Tertiary Care Center of Northeast India

Jagannath Dev Sharma et al.

Summary: This study aimed to investigate the prevalence of different molecular subtypes in breast cancer patients of different age groups, revealing that in Northeast Indian women, luminal B is the most common subtype. The difference in subtype prevalence compared to other studies may be due to the lack of K-67 testing in those studies.

Synthesis and evaluation of anticancer activities of 2-or 4-substituted 3-(N-benzyltriazolylmethyl)-13α-oestrone derivatives

Rebeka Jojart et al.

Summary: Newly synthesised brominated and phosphonated compounds were investigated for their antiproliferative activities against human cancer cell lines. One of the compounds showed substantial selective cell growth-inhibitory activity against the A2780 cell line and strong interactions with tubulin binding sites. The disturbance of tubulin function was confirmed by photometric polymerisation assay.
