Introducing MdTFL1 Promotes Heading Date and Produces Semi-Draft Phenotype in Rice

Van Giap Do et al.

Summary: Flowering time, plant height, and grain number are crucial for rice productivity. The MdTFL1 gene has been found to promote early flowering in transgenic rice by upregulating multiple endogenous floral meristem identity genes. Additionally, MdTFL1 leads to a wide range of phenotypic changes, particularly affecting grain productivity.

Pigmentation and Flavonoid Metabolite Diversity in Immature 'Fuji' Apple Fruits in Response to Lights and Methyl Jasmonate

Jung-A Ryu et al.

Summary: This study analyzed the diversity of flavonoids and the patterns of flavonoid metabolic gene expression in immature and color-turning 'Fuji' apples under light irradiation with or without methyl jasmonate treatment. The results showed that UV-B exposure significantly stimulated anthocyanin accumulation in apple skin, and the immature stage of apples was more sensitive to UV-B and MeJA treatment.

Light Induces Carotenoid Biosynthesis-Related Gene Expression, Accumulation of Pigment Content, and Expression of the Small Heat Shock Protein in Apple Fruit

Van Giap Do et al.

Summary: The coloration of apple fruits depends on pigment content, and light stimulus and carotenoids are involved in the coloring process. The pigment content and the expression of carotenoid metabolism genes in apple fruits vary significantly under different light conditions, and the genetic background also plays a role. Additionally, a combination of light and transitory overexpression of carotenogenic genes can enhance fruit coloration and pigment content.

Light Induced Regulation Pathway of Anthocyanin Biosynthesis in Plants

Yanyun Ma et al.

Summary: Anthocyanins are natural pigments with antioxidant effects found in various fruits and vegetables, accumulating in plants through environmental signals and transcription factors. Light is a significant regulatory factor in the anthocyanin biosynthesis pathway, but the signal transduction of light and molecular regulation of anthocyanin synthesis require further exploration.

Review: The effects of hormones and environmental factors on anthocyanin biosynthesis in apple

Huai-Na Gao et al.

Summary: Fruit coloration plays a critical role in determining the commercial value and market competitiveness of apples. The red color of apple fruit is mainly influenced by anthocyanin accumulation, which is in turn affected by various factors. Hormones and environmental factors are key players in the biosynthesis of apple anthocyanin.

Blue and Far-Red Light Affect Area and Number of Individual Leaves to Influence Vegetative Growth and Pigment Synthesis in Lettuce

Yuyao Kong et al.

Summary: Published work suggests that high percentage of blue light increases pigment levels but decreases growth, while addition of far-red light can enhance photosynthesis. Combining high-energy blue light with low-energy far-red light may promote both vegetative growth and pigment levels, however the specific impact on pigment synthesis remains unclear.

Fruit Colour and Novel Mechanisms of Genetic Regulation of Pigment Production in Tomato Fruits

Silvia Gonzali et al.

Summary: Fruit colour is a genetic trait that has ecological and nutritional value. Plants use colour to attract animals for seed dispersion, and factors such as environment and domestication have driven further diversification in fruit colour evolution. The genetic determinants of tomato colours have been identified, showing complex mechanisms of gene expression regulation that provide evolutionary flexibility to this trait.

Effect of Reflected Sunlight on Differential Expression of Anthocyanin Synthesis-Related Genes in Young Apple Fruit

Do Van Giap et al.

Summary: This study investigated the role of sunlight exposure in stimulating the coloration of apple fruit by regulating the expression of genes involved in anthocyanin accumulation during the early stage of fruit development. Results showed that the shaded side of apple fruits quickly turned redder after exposure to reflected sunlight, indicating a strong correlation between anthocyanin-related gene expression levels and coloration patterns. The production of redder fruits through a non-transgenic approach could be more appealing to consumers.
