KEGG for taxonomy-based analysis of pathways and genomes

Minoru Kanehisa et al.

Summary: KEGG is a manually curated database resource that integrates various biological objects classified into systems, genomic, chemical, and health information. Through the KEGG identifier and URL links, users can retrieve and browse information for different biological objects, including pathway maps, hierarchy, and genomes. KEGG has also improved KO assignment annotation and included more eukaryotic genomes for better representation of organisms in the taxonomic tree. The taxonomy mapping enables analysis of the conservation of functional and physical links among genes in different organism groups.

StWRKY13 promotes anthocyanin biosynthesis in potato (Solanum tuberosum) tubers

Huiling Zhang et al.

Summary: The study isolated and characterized the potato WRKY gene StWRKY13, which was found to enhance the expression of multiple key genes involved in anthocyanin biosynthesis in potato tubers. Over-expression of StWRKY13 promoted anthocyanin biosynthesis in potato tubers, supporting the theoretical basis for anthocyanin formation in colored potato tubers.

Overexpression of MdZAT5, an C2H2-Type Zinc Finger Protein, Regulates Anthocyanin Accumulation and Salt Stress Response in Apple Calli and Arabidopsis

Da-Ru Wang et al.

Summary: In this study, a zinc finger protein gene MdZAT5, which plays an important role in plant growth and abiotic stress, was investigated. The results showed that MdZAT5 was highly expressed in flower tissues and its expression was induced by various abiotic stress treatments. Overexpression of MdZAT5 in apple and Arabidopsis enhanced anthocyanin accumulation and increased sensitivity to salt stress.

Functional analysis of the ScAG and ScAGL11 MADS-box transcription factors for anthocyanin biosynthesis and bicolour pattern formation in Senecio cruentus ray florets

Fangting Qi et al.

Summary: This study investigated the molecular mechanisms underlying anthocyanin biosynthesis and bicolour formation in cineraria. The findings showed that ScAG and ScAGL11 negatively regulate anthocyanin biosynthesis in cineraria ray florets and their differential expression influences the bicolour pattern appearance.

Light-responsive transcription factor PpWRKY44 induces anthocyanin accumulation by regulating PpMYB10 expression in pear

Ahmed Alabd et al.

Summary: This study identified and functionally characterized a light-inducing WRKY transcription factor, PpWRKY44, in pear. PpWRKY44 promotes anthocyanin accumulation in pear and regulates its transcription by binding to the PpMYB10 promoter. These results reveal the mechanism of PpWRKY44 in the transcriptional regulation of fruit peel coloration in red pears.

The Photomorphogenic Transcription Factor PpHY5 Regulates Anthocyanin Accumulation in Response to UVA and UVB Irradiation

Yun Zhao et al.

Summary: The study found that UV-A (UVA) and UV-B irradiation can promote anthocyanin biosynthesis in Hujingmilu peach fruit, with a combination of the two having additional effects. UV irradiation can induce the expression of light signaling-related genes in a short period of time, especially before visible color changes occur. PpHY5 in peach regulates anthocyanin synthesis in the UVA and UVB light transduction pathway by upregulating the expression of transcription factor genes.

Integrated Analysis of the Transcriptome and Metabolome Revealed the Molecular Mechanisms Underlying the Enhanced Salt Tolerance of Rice Due to the Application of Exogenous Melatonin

Ziyan Xie et al.

Summary: This study reveals the molecular basis of melatonin-mediated salt tolerance in rice by integrated transcriptome and metabolome profiling. Exogenous melatonin enhances salt tolerance by activating multiple antioxidant pathways, including the AP2/EREBP-HB-WRKY transcriptional cascade and phytohormone signaling pathways. Metabolome analysis identifies specific metabolites with antioxidant functions that contribute to melatonin-mediated salt tolerance.

Review: The effects of hormones and environmental factors on anthocyanin biosynthesis in apple

Huai-Na Gao et al.

Summary: Fruit coloration plays a critical role in determining the commercial value and market competitiveness of apples. The red color of apple fruit is mainly influenced by anthocyanin accumulation, which is in turn affected by various factors. Hormones and environmental factors are key players in the biosynthesis of apple anthocyanin.
