The role of long non-coding RNA in abdominal aortic aneurysm

Yi Xu et al.

Summary: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is characterized by segmental expansion of the abdominal aorta and has a high mortality rate. Apoptosis of smooth muscle cells, reactive oxygen species production, and inflammation are potential pathways for AAA formation and development. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) is emerging as a new regulator of gene expression and may serve as clinical biomarkers and treatment targets for AAA. Understanding the role of lncRNA and their target genes in AAA is crucial for developing potential therapies for the disease.

Summary: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a life-threatening cardiovascular condition, with a prevalence of about 2-3% in the industrialized world. Older men with a history of smoking are at a higher risk for developing AAA. Screening programs can help detect and prevent ruptures of the aorta, which have a high associated death rate.

Summary: Transforming growth factor-beta (TGF-beta) signaling plays a crucial role in diseases of the aorta, but its mechanisms of action are still unclear. Researchers have made progress in understanding the role of canonical signaling-related core genes in disease by detecting gene mutations, utilizing animal models, and conducting in vitro studies.

Molecular mechanism of VEGF and its role in pathological angiogenesis

Ajmal Ahmad et al.

Summary: This review article summarizes the significant scientific contributions made in the past seven decades regarding the implications of vascular endothelial-derived growth factor (VEGF) in angiogenesis processes. It highlights the role of VEGF in pathological conditions and its potential as a therapeutic target for managing cancers and intraocular neovascular disorders. The article also emphasizes the need for further research and development of alternative strategies in the management of VEGF-mediated pathological angiogenesis. Additionally, it discusses the emerging field of therapeutic angiogenesis for the treatment of ischemic disorders.

Cytokines in Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: Master Regulators With Clinical Application

Olesya A. Puchenkova et al.

Summary: Abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) is a potentially life-threatening disorder where the abdominal aorta becomes weakened and bulged. Cytokines, including IL-6, IL-10, IL-12, IL-17, IL-33, IL-1 beta, TGF-beta, TNF-alpha, IFN-gamma, and CXCL10, play important roles in the development of AAA. Changes in the expression and regulation of these cytokines in AAA tissue samples have been observed. These cytokines can serve as informative markers and predictors of AAA, and their abnormal concentrations have been found in patients with AAA. Polymorphic variants of genes encoding cytokines and their receptors are also associated with the risk of AAA.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm: Roles of Inflammatory Cells

Zhen Yuan et al.

Summary: Abdominal aortic aneurysms (AAAs) are local dilations of the infrarenal segment of aortas, with inflammation playing a central role in their development. In addition to inflammatory cells like T cells, macrophages, and neutrophils, special structures such as inflammasomes and neutrophil extracellular traps are investigated for their roles in aneurysm formation. Understanding the impacts and interactions of these inflammatory cells and structures is crucial for developing new screening and pharmacological interventions for AAA.
