Brassinosteroid Stimulates Hydrogen Peroxide Biosynthesis and Reduces the Effect of Cold Stress

Yuting Wang et al.

Summary: This research demonstrates the essential role of RBOH-dependent H2O2 in BR-induced cold tolerance in grape seedlings. BR application can enhance cold tolerance by maintaining higher antioxidases activities, osmoprotectant levels, and regulating phytohormone levels. Furthermore, exogenous BR treatment triggers the upregulation of key genes and the production of endogenous H2O2, which contribute to the improvement of cold tolerance.

Chelator Iminodisuccinic Acid Regulates Reactive Oxygen Species Accumulation and Improves Maize (Zea mays L.) Seed Germination under Pb Stress

Yifei Zhang et al.

Summary: The effects of iminodisuccinic acid on maize seed germination under lead stress were explored. It was found that iminodisuccinic acid delayed seed germination under normal conditions but alleviated the inhibitory effects of lead stress. The supplementation of iminodisuccinic acid improved the balance of reactive oxygen species and promoted seed germination and seedling growth.

Effect of imidazolium's ionic liquids with different anions and alkyl chain length on phytotoxicity and biochemical analysis of maize seedling

Sakina et al.

Summary: The study found that high concentrations of ILs (250 and 350 mg/L) can harm seed germination and seedling growth of maize, with [Bmim]BF4 > [Omim]Cl > [Bmim]Cl. IL treatment resulted in a reduction in seed germination, weight of root and shoot, leaf area, relative water content, and photosynthetic pigments production. Antioxidant activity of maize seedling decreased with increasing IL concentration, while phenolic content increased.

Ex vivo imaging and analysis of ROS generation correlated with microglial activation in rat model with acute neuroinflammation induced by intrastriatal injection of LPS

Miho Shukuri et al.

Summary: This study investigated the time-dependent changes in ROS generation during acute neuroinflammation and found a correlation between activated microglia and ROS levels. The inhibition of microglial activation by anti-inflammatory antibiotics and radical scavengers reduced ROS levels and provided insights into the interaction between ROS-regulatory system and activated microglia in neuroinflammation.

Effect of germination time on the compositional, functional and antioxidant properties of whole wheat malt and its end-use evaluation in cookie-making

Bin Yang et al.

Summary: The study showed that germination time significantly affects the compositional changes and functionality of whole wheat malt flour, leading to decreases in pasting viscosity and water-binding capacity, as well as increases in antioxidant capacity. The incorporation of malt flour in cookies resulted in a distorted honeycomb-like structure, indicating changes in the cookie quality.

Sulfur dioxide promotes seed germination by modulating reactive oxygen species production in maize

Ziting Guo et al.

Summary: Recent studies have shown that sulfur dioxide (SO2) plays a positive role in stress defense responses in plants, especially in seed germination. SO2 treatment can significantly promote seed germination and vigor in maize by increasing reactive oxygen species levels and NADPH oxidase activities, leading to elevated alpha-amylase activity and transcripts. These findings suggest that SO2 may function as a signaling molecule in plant growth and development, specifically in seed germination control.

Transcription-associated metabolomic adjustments in maize occur during combined drought and cold stress

Qianqian Guo et al.

Summary: The study emphasizes the multifaceted response of plants to drought and cold stress, highlighting physiological and genetic changes that occur during acclimation to these stresses; plants experience a decline in photosynthetic capacity under both drought and cold stress, but can recover from the stress, with internal ABA playing a key role in plant acclimation to cold.
