NF-kappa B as a regulator of cancer metastasis and therapy response: A focus on epithelial-mesenchymal transition

Sepideh Mirzaei et al.

Summary: Metastasis of tumor cells is a significant challenge in cancer patients, and the activation of nuclear factor-kappaB (NF-kappa B) plays a crucial role in regulating the epithelial-to-mesenchymal transition (EMT). The activation of NF-kappa B enhances the invasive properties of tumor cells through inducing EMT mechanism, and this has been confirmed in various cancers.

A raising dawn of pentoxifylline in management of inflammatory disorders in Covid-19

Gomaa Mostafa-Hedeab et al.

Summary: This article discusses the pathophysiology of Covid-19 caused by SARS-CoV-2 and highlights the potential role of PTX as a drug with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects in its treatment. PTX may attenuate the hyperinflammatory response and oxidative stress induced by SARS-CoV-2, as well as improve blood viscosity and reduce coagulopathy.

Tumor necrosis factor-α coordinates with transforming growth factor-β1 to induce epithelial-mesenchymal transition and migration via the NF-κB/NOX4 pathway in bronchial epithelial cells

Ke Li et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that TNF-alpha and TGF-beta 1 synergistically promote EMT and cell migration in BEAS-2B cells. In addition, inhibiting the NF-kappa B/NOX4 signaling pathway can suppress the expression of EMT-related markers and cell migration.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
