Failure characteristics and the damage evolution of a composite bearing structure in pillar-side cemented paste backfilling

Boqiang Cui et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the deformation characteristics and damage evolution of six types of BPB composite samples under uniaxial compression conditions using a digital speckle correlation method. A new damage evolution equation is established based on the input strain energy and dissipated strain energy. The results show that deformation localization and macroscopic cracks occur at the coal-backfilling interface, then expand to the backfilling elements, and ultimately appear in the coal elements. The damage evolution curve and equation agree well with the test results, providing further understanding of the instability prevention and control mechanisms of the BPB composite samples.

Systematic review of mixing technology for recycling waste tailings as cemented paste backfill in mines in China

Liuhua Yang et al.

Summary: The development of the mining industry is closely related to the growth of the industry at large. However, mining activities have a significant impact on the environment due to energy consumption and tailing emissions. The cemented paste backfill (CPB) technology has emerged as a representative solution for mine ground control and tailings management. However, the mixing process in CPB technology faces challenges in achieving uniformity due to fine tailings, high solid volume fraction, and high viscosity. This review summarizes the current studies on CPB mixing technology, discusses the advantages and disadvantages of various mixing equipment, and highlights the challenges and trends in improving mixing technology to promote the development of cement-based material mixing technology.
