An improved kinematic hardening rule describing the effect of loading history on plastic modulus and ratcheting strain

Jiawei Bai et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of loading history on ratcheting behavior and stress-strain hysteresis loops under uniaxial loading. A nonlinear constitutive model for cyclic elastoplastic behavior is developed, accounting for the effect of loading history on plastic modulus and introducing a linear function to address yield surface translation. A maximum stress memory surface is also defined to describe the ratcheting effect under multi-step loading. Quantitative results demonstrate the accuracy of the proposed model in capturing cyclic hardening, ratcheting strain and stress-strain hysteresis loops, compared to experiments and existing models.

Ratcheting deformation and fatigue of surface treated ZK60 magnesium alloy

Ying Xiong et al.

Summary: Three surface treatment methods, including laser shock penning, micro-arc oxidation, and a combination of both, were used on extruded ZK60 magnesium alloy specimens to prepare modified layers. The ratcheting deformation behavior under different stress-controlled loading conditions was investigated, and it was found that the deformation mechanism consisted of four modes. A modified energy-based fatigue model was used to predict the fatigue life under various loading conditions.

A combined elastic-plastic framework unifying the various cyclic softening/hardening behaviors for heat resistant steels: Experiment and modeling

Kai Song et al.

Summary: In this study, the stress-strain responses of G115 martensitic steel, Inconel alloy 750H, and 316H austenitic steel at elevated temperatures were investigated via low cycle fatigue tests. The effects of microstructure on stress-strain responses were discussed, and a unified elastic-plastic framework was established. The results showed good consistencies between experimental and predicted results, indicating the strong capability of the model to integrate different behaviors into a constitutive model.

Modeling of cyclic hardening and evaluation of plastic strain range in the presence of pre-loading and ratcheting

Nobutada Ohno et al.

Summary: In this study, an extended evolution equation for cyclic hardening and a set of evolution equations for plastic strain surface were proposed to properly evaluate the cyclic plastic strain range under pre-loading and ratcheting conditions. These extensions were verified through uniaxial cyclic experiments on 316 stainless steel at 600 degrees C and proved to accurately simulate the experiments without the need for a resetting scheme if the strain range does not significantly decrease with cycles. The extended equations were also used to discuss the effect of maximum plastic strain based on previous experiments.

A cyclic plasticity model for secondary hardening due to strain-induced martensitic transformation

Caina Bemfica et al.

Summary: A model for secondary cyclic hardening in metastable austenitic stainless steels due to strain-induced martensitic transformation is proposed, based on an Armstrong-Frederick type kinematic hardening framework. The model describes secondary hardening by relating backstress to martensite content evolution, incorporating a memory surface to consider the influence of plastic strain amplitude on martensitic transformation. The model accurately estimated stress response of three austenitic stainless steels under various loading conditions, discussing model characteristics, material constant determination, and future research suggestions.

Cyclic softening behavior of structural steel with strain range dependence

Chen Wang et al.

Summary: This study experimentally investigated the cyclic softening behavior of structural steel under seismic loading, which is influenced by the strain range dependence effect. The stress amplitudes experience loop-wise softening when the strain range drops to a lower level.
