Investigation of variability in apparent values of materials properties in thermo-mechanical uniaxial tensile tests on sheet metals

Ruiqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: Thermo-mechanical uniaxial tensile testing is commonly used to characterize material properties under advanced industrial forming processes. This study investigates the effect of nonuniform temperature distributions on the variability of thermo-mechanical properties and microstructures of tested specimens.

Experimental studies of necking and fracture limits of boron steel sheet under hot stamping conditions

Ruiqiang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a high temperature modification of a recently developed biaxial test method has been used to determine the forming limit curves (FLCs) and fracture forming limit curves (FFLCs) for 22MnB5 boron steel sheet. Full-field strain measurements obtained through digital image correlation (DIC) provide an experimental foundation for constructing these curves in industrial applications.

Clarification of the effect of temperature and strain rate on workpiece deformation behaviour in metal forming processes

Wenbin Zhou et al.

Summary: This paper proposes a deformation mechanism map to clarify the interacting effect of deformation conditions (temperature and strain rate) on workpiece behavior in metal forming processes. The rate type deformation equations, which comprehensively model the effect of temperature and strain rate on deformation mechanism characteristics, are elucidated. Additionally, examples of Ti-6Al-4V and Al-Mg alloy are used to demonstrate the application of these equations.

Investigation of formability, microstructures and post-forming mechanical properties of heat-treatable aluminum alloys subjected to pre-aged hardening warm forming

Lin Hua et al.

Summary: The PHF process improves the formability of aluminum alloys, with stamping tests confirming the feasibility of the technique on cap beam components. Optical and transmission electron microscopy observations show that the grain sizes of pre-aged alloys are not significantly affected by the stamping process in the PHF process.

Summary: This study investigates the spring-back behavior of advanced high strength steel using a thermal-mechanical simulator GleebleTM. Results show that increasing the cooling rate reduces spring-back and leads to spring-forward, due to the increased volume fraction of martensite.

Precipitation kinetics in metallic alloys: Experiments and modeling

A. Deschamps et al.

Summary: Nanoscale precipitation is a widely used microstructural tool for manipulating the properties of metallic alloys, particularly to increase strength. The process is controlled by an interplay between thermodynamics and kinetics, resulting in nucleation, growth, and coarsening in a variety of precipitation trajectories.

The dominating role of austenite stability and martensite transformation mechanism on the toughness and ductile-to-brittle-transition temperature of a quenched and partitioned steel

Kai Yang et al.

Summary: The study showed that the stability of metastable retained austenite in Q&P steel samples is influenced by carbon content, grain size/morphology, and stress shielding effects. The martensite transformation has a dual effect on dynamic impact properties, depending on the transformation mechanism and temperature. The QP120 sample achieved an excellent combination of mechanical properties due to the stability of the film gamma(M) during tensile and impact tests.
