An experimental study on pre-stretched double-chamber 6000-series aluminium profiles subjected to quasi-static and dynamic axial crushing

Kristin Qvale et al.

Summary: This study examined the behavior of double-chamber AA6063 and AA6082 aluminum profiles under quasi-static and dynamic axial crushing, revealing that higher pre-stretch resulted in a more ductile material with slightly lower ultimate tensile strength. Dynamic loading was found to cause a larger amount of fracture compared to quasi-static loading through visual inspection and X-ray Computed Tomography scans.

Effects of constituent particle content on ductile fracture in isotropic and anisotropic 6000-series aluminium alloys

Asle Joachim Tomstad et al.

Summary: The study found that extrusion significantly improves the ductility of aluminum alloys, while a high volume fraction of large-sized constituent particles has a detrimental effect on ductility. However, the negative impact of increased particle volume fraction on ductility is reduced after extrusion.

Anisotropic Plasticity and Fracture of Three 6000-Series Aluminum Alloys

Susanne Thomesen et al.

Summary: The influence of microstructure on the plasticity and fracture behavior of three 6000-series aluminum alloys was studied, with particular focus on the anisotropy caused by the extrusion process. The experimental results showed significant differences in the directional variation of yield stress, plastic flow, work hardening, and failure strain between alloys with recrystallization texture and deformation texture. Alloys with recrystallized microstructure exhibited substantial anisotropic work hardening and stronger notch sensitivity of the failure strain compared to alloys with deformed, non-recrystallized microstructure.
