Lift-off characteristics of non-premixed jet flames in laminar/turbulent transition

Dong Seok Jeon et al.

Summary: This study estimated lift-off heights of lifted flames based on variations in fuel tube diameter, fuel jet velocity, and methane/propane proportions, with improved flow rate relationships proposed in external mixing and fully turbulent regimes. The blowout mechanism was explained using turbulent intensity, and an overall diagram showing various stabilization mechanisms of lifted flames was presented.

Different chemical effect of hydrogen addition on soot formation in laminar coflow methane and ethylene diffusion flames

Yang Wang et al.

Summary: Previous studies have shown that adding hydrogen can have opposite effects on soot formation in methane and ethylene diffusion flames. The increase in H atom mole fraction in methane flames promotes soot formation, while the decrease in pyrene mole fraction in ethylene flames suppresses soot formation.

Flame stabilization and soot emission of methane jet flames for CO2 diluted oxy-combustion at elevated pressure

Jiseop Lee et al.

Summary: The study focused on oxy-combustion cycles with CO2 dilution to eliminate NOx emissions and facilitate CO2 capture. Results showed that jet Reynolds number and CO2 diffusion were key to flame stabilization. Moving the fuel-tube tip under atmospheric pressure reduced soot emissions, but serious emissions recurred at elevated pressures. A lifted flame detached from the fuel-tube tip could be employed to reduce emissions without losing combustion efficiency.

A review of the effects of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor addition on soot formation in hydrocarbon flames

Summary: The research progress on the effects of hydrogen, carbon dioxide, and water vapor addition on soot formation in hydrocarbon flames in the last few decades is systematically summarized. Overall, these three common diluents have been shown to suppress soot formation, but their chemical effects may vary in terms of their role in different stages of the soot formation process.
