An analytical model for the evaporation of multi-component spheroidal drops based on Stefan-Maxwell equations

S. Tonini et al.

Summary: An analytical evaporation model for multi-component spherical and spheroidal drops, based on the analytical solution of the Stefan-Maxwell equations, is proposed to study the multi-component steady diffusion in the gas phase. Comparison with the 'classical' approach based on Fick's law is reported for three families of liquid mixtures, and the effects of drop shape and constitutive equations on evaporation rates are discussed. The model shows satisfactory agreement when compared with experimental measurements of different compositions of drops vaporising in stagnant air.

A new robust modeling strategy for multi-component droplet heat and mass transfer in general ambient conditions

Fernando Luiz Sacomano Filho et al.

Summary: Liquid fuels used in spray combustion processes are composed of mixed components, forming multi-component liquid droplets that undergo complex heat and mass transfers in various atmospheric conditions. Existing models have limitations in characterizing these interactions, prompting the proposal of a novel modeling strategy. The new model, derived from general transport equations of the gas phase, proves to be efficient in all tested scenarios, showing differential diffusion effects among participating species for mass and heat transfer.

Modelling of aviation kerosene droplet heating and evaporation using complete fuel composition and surrogates

Summary: The Discrete Component Model and Abramzon-Sirignano model were applied to analyze the droplet heating and evaporation of Jet A kerosene and its surrogates. By implementing the models into MFSim code, there is a significant reduction in CPU requirements for calculation, improving simulation efficiency.
