Extraction and Quantification of Moringa oleifera Leaf Powder Extracts by HPLC and FTIR

Shakeela Khalid et al.

Summary: Lack of physical exercise, unhealthy eating habits, exposure to environmental pollutants, heavy metals, and food additives, and modern lifestyle can lead to oxidative stress. Antioxidants from Moringa oleifera leaf powder (MoLP) may help prevent oxidative damage and chronic diseases. An investigation was conducted, characterizing the phytochemicals in MoLP using HPLC and FTIR spectroscopy. The results showed that MoLP contains high concentrations of quercetin, gallic acid, chlorogenic acid, p-coumaric acid, ferulic acid, and sinapic acid, which act as antioxidants to stabilize free radicals.

Condensed Tannins as Antioxidants in Ruminants-Effectiveness and Action Mechanisms to Improve Animal Antioxidant Status and Oxidative Stability of Products

David Soldado et al.

Summary: Condensed tannins (CTs) are secondary plant metabolites known for their antinutritional properties but also for their beneficial attributes for animal health and food quality, including antioxidant activity. Utilization of CT-rich sources in ruminant feeding can improve the animals' antioxidant status and oxidative stability of their products. However, the mechanism underlying the antioxidant activity of CT sources in ruminants is still not fully understood.
