Study on the application and optimization of domestic sewage treatment demonstration based on a novel biofilter-constructed wetland coupling system

X. Wang et al.

Summary: A novel biofilter-constructed wetland coupling system has been successfully implemented in over 160 domestic sewage treatment projects in different cities of Zhejiang province, China. The long-term evaluation of a selected project revealed a stable and good water quality, meeting the regulatory standards for discharge of water pollutants. Big data analysis showed a strong polynomial relationship between effluent TP and NH4+-N concentrations, as well as a positive linear correlation between effluent CODCr and NH4+-N concentrations. pH had a stronger correlation with C/N, while effluent NH4+-N and TP concentrations had weaker correlations with pH. Additionally, a comparison study demonstrated that the enhanced system achieved higher removal efficiencies for CODCr, NH4+-N, and TP compared to the original system.

A novel multistage anoxic/aerobic process with sludge regeneration zone (R-MAO) for advanced nitrogen removal from domestic sewage

Lin Cao et al.

Summary: A novel multistage anoxic/aerobic process with sludge regeneration zone (R-MAO) was developed to achieve advanced nitrogen removal from actual municipal sewage. The study investigated the nitrogen removal capacity of the sludge regeneration zone (R zone) during long-term operation. The results showed that the R zone performed best at an Oxidation-Reduction Potential (ORP) of 50 +/- 30 mV and hydraulic residence times (HRT) of 1.2 hr. The R-MAO process achieved high removal efficiencies for COD, TN, and NH4+-N, and the TN removal efficiency of the R-MAO was higher compared to the sole MAO system. High-throughput sequencing results identified specific bacteria that played important roles in denitrification in the R zone.

Investigation of pre-treatment techniques to improve membrane performance in real textile wastewater treatment

H. Ozgun et al.

Summary: Membrane technology plays a significant role in the treatment of textile wastewater. The study compares different pre-treatment methods and shows that they enhance the performance of membrane processes, except for zeolite adsorption. The best pre-treatment method for chemical oxygen demand removal is microfiltration with a 0.05 μm membrane. UV/TiO2 has the highest conductivity removal efficiency, while ozonation achieves the highest color removal. The study aims to create an efficient system for real textile wastewater treatment.

Evaluation of TiO2/UV; O3/UV, and PDS/Vis for improving chlorfenvinphos removal from real municipal treated wastewater effluent

P. Zawadzki

Summary: This article investigates the effectiveness of different advanced oxidation processes (TiO2/UV; O-3/UV, and PDS/Vis) for treating municipal wastewater contaminated with chlorfenvinphos. The results show that the PDS/Vis process is the most effective in reducing the concentration of chlorfenvinphos, with a reduction of 51-81% within 20 minutes. The study also reveals that chlorfenvinphos is not fully degraded and the PDS/Vis process is the most economical option.

Optimization of A2O-MBR-BAF-O3 combination process for domestic wastewater

L. Huang et al.

Summary: To remove pollutants in domestic wastewater more completely, a combination process of anaerobic-anoxic-oxic (A(2)O)-membrane bioreactor (MBR)-biological aerated filter (BAF)-O-3 was studied. An ultrafiltration membrane was placed inside the A(2)O reactor to form an integrated reactor. The experimental water was sequentially degraded by A(2)O-MBR, BAF, and O-3 reactor. Optimal operating conditions were determined: hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 10 h, reflux ratio of 200%, and ozone contact time of 15 min. Under these conditions, high removal rates of various pollutants were achieved, and the effluent quality met the standard of Class IV surface water in China.

Sequencing batch reactor efficiency to reduce pollutant in olive oil mill wastewater mixed with urban wastewater

S. K. Rifi et al.

Summary: The production of olive oil mill wastewater is a major environmental sustainability issue in the food sector. This study evaluates the treatment capacity of a sequential batch reactor (SBR) for diluted olive oil mill wastewater using domestic wastewater. The results show that the dilution improves biodegradability and reduces pollution. The suggested treatment process is simple and cost-effective, making it suitable for olive oil manufacturing industries.

Contrasting behaviors of pre-ozonation on ceramic membrane biofouling: Early stage vs late stage

Ting Jiang et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the effects of pre-ozonation on ceramic membrane biofouling and provided mechanistic insights. The results showed that pre-ozonation aggravated biofouling at the early stage, but alleviated it at the late stage. The structures and compositions of cake layers exhibited significant differences between the early and late stages, accompanied by variation in microbial community.
