r2mlm: An R package calculating R-squared measures for multilevel models

Mairead Shaw et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new R package called r2mlm that automates the computation of R-squared measures for multilevel models and provides visualizations. By using open data and code examples, readers can learn how to use and interpret the output of this R package.

Applying the Science of Habit Formation to Evidence-Based Psychological Treatments for Mental Illness

Allison G. Harvey et al.

Summary: Habits play a significant role in physical and mental health, yet the application of habit formation in clinical psychological science remains underexplored. Evidence-based psychological treatments aim to disrupt unwanted habits and develop desired habits, but the importance of habit formation principles and measures in this field has not been adequately emphasized.

Negative affect and binge eating: Assessing the unique trajectories of negative affect before and after binge-eating episodes across eating disorder diagnostic classifications

Joseph A. Wonderlich et al.

Summary: This study found that there are differences in the trajectory of negative affect before and after binge eating among individuals with anorexia nervosa, bulimia nervosa, and binge-eating disorder. Specifically, individuals with bulimia nervosa showed greater changes in negative affect before and after binge eating compared to those with binge-eating disorder, but not those with anorexia nervosa.

A literature review of dopamine in binge eating

Yang Yu et al.

Summary: This paper reviews the associations of dopamine levels/activities, dopamine regulator levels/activities, and dopamine receptor availability/affinity with binge eating. Most studies supported an altered dopaminergic state related to binge eating, with divergent results on whether the state was hyperdopaminergic or hypodopaminergic. The inconsistent findings may be explained by sample characteristics, study design, and techniques used, suggesting that hyperdopaminergic and hypodopaminergic states may co-exist in different stages or individuals.

Characterizing cerebral metabolite profiles in anorexia and bulimia nervosa and their associations with habitual behavior

Margaret L. Westwater et al.

Summary: Anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN) are associated with altered brain structure and function, as well as increased habitual behavior. This study found that certain neurochemical changes in the brain, including altered glutamate, myo-inositol, and N-acetyl aspartate (NAA) concentrations, are observed in AN. The researchers used magnetic resonance spectroscopy to measure these substances and found associations between prefrontal metabolites and automaticity behavior.

An Introduction to Linear Mixed-Effects Modeling in R

Violet A. Brown

Summary: This tutorial serves as an accessible introduction to mixed-effects modeling for researchers with basic statistical knowledge but little experience in implementing such models in R. By avoiding complex mathematical terminology and providing R code snippets and data, the tutorial aims to equip researchers with the tools needed to begin using mixed-effects models in their own research.
