Comorbidity and Therapeutic Approaches in Patients with Necrobiosis Lipoidica

Summary: This study evaluated the therapeutic approaches and efficacy for 98 patients with NL. Common comorbidities included diabetes and thyroidal disorders. Topical steroids were predominantly used, while systemic application of fumaric acid esters and dapsone showed remarkable efficacy as alternatives to the use of steroids.

Summary: This study reveals that there are distinct histopathologic features of necrobiosis lipoidica (NL) in patients with and without diabetes mellitus (DM). Diabetic patients are more likely to have epidermal acanthosis, while non-diabetic patients are more likely to have naked granulomas and eosinophil infiltration.
