Summary: This review discusses the pathophysiology of the coagulation mechanism in COVID-19 patients and explores the interplay between the endothelium, immune system, and coagulation system. It also mentions vaccine-induced thrombotic thrombocytopenia and available anticoagulant treatment options.

Summary: This study assessed the safety and efficacy of embolization for spontaneous bleeding in anticoagulated patients with COVID-19. The results showed that embolization successfully controlled the hematomas without complications and allowed patients to resume anticoagulation therapy. Follow-up visits demonstrated the good recovery of all treated patients.

Summary: A multicentric study was conducted on 9 COVID-19 patients with rectus sheath hematoma. The study found that increased levels of inflammatory markers and a sudden decrease in blood hemoglobin may be predisposing factors for this complication. It was observed to be fatal in COVID-19 pneumonia patients.

Summary: COVID-19 is associated with increased risk of thrombotic events, and early studies have shown that disease severity and elevated D-dimer levels can predict thrombotic risk. However, there is limited data on postdischarge and outpatient patients. This review discusses the pathogenesis of COVID-related thrombosis and the evidence guiding thromboprophylaxis in inpatients, as well as emerging data from postdischarge and outpatient settings. The importance of risk stratification and individualized anticoagulation is emphasized.

Summary: Spontaneous retroperitoneal hematomas are common in hospitalized patients with COVID-19 related pneumonia. Trans-arterial embolization (TAE) is a life-saving procedure after failure of medical and supportive therapy. This study evaluated the imaging features of spontaneous retroperitoneal hematomas and the safety, technical and clinical success of TAE in COVID-19 and non-COVID-19 patients. TAE was found to be a safe and effective option for the treatment of spontaneous retroperitoneal hematomas in COVID-19 patients.

Summary: This study found that both hemorrhagic and thromboembolic complications can occur in hospitalized patients with COVID-19, highlighting the importance of radiologists maintaining a high index of suspicion for early diagnosis of these complications.

Summary: In COVID-19 ICU patients, approximately 18% had major bleeding and 29% had thrombotic events. Bleeding occurred later than thrombosis, with coagulation disorders showing a biphasic evolution. Overdosing of anticoagulants was common in bleeding cases, suggesting the need for careful monitoring and adjustment of thromboprophylaxis.
