Mid-term trends and recent birth-cohort-dependent changes in incidence rates of cutaneous malignant melanoma in Italy

Lauro Bucchi et al.

Summary: The study reveals that while the incidence rate of CMM has been consistently increasing in Italy overall, there are indications of stabilization or decline in younger individuals. The risk of disease seems to vary by birth cohort, with a peak in successive cohorts born until the 1970s followed by a decline. This suggests a birth-cohort-dependent decrease in CMM incidence rates among the latest generations, extending to southern Europe.

The European cancer burden in 2020: Incidence and mortality estimates for 40 countries and 25 major cancers

Tadeusz Dyba et al.

Summary: This article presents the incidence and mortality estimates for 25 major cancers across 40 individual countries within European areas and the EU-27 for the year 2020. The most common cancers are breast, colorectal, lung, and prostate cancers, which account for half the overall cancer burden in Europe. The estimates provide a basis for setting priorities in cancer-control measures across Europe.

Lung cancer mortality in Europe and the USA between 2000 and 2017: an observational analysis

Chinmay Jani et al.

Summary: Our study found that lung cancer mortality rates decreased in males in Europe and the USA from 2000 to 2017, while increasing trends were observed in females. The decrease in male mortality rates was faster compared to females, leading to an overall decrease in the male-to-female mortality ratio.

Impact of tobacco control policies implementation on future lung cancer incidence in Europe: An international, population-based modeling study

Thomas Gredner et al.

Summary: The study estimated that implementing the highest-level tobacco control policies could prevent 1.65 million lung cancer cases in Europe, with slightly higher prevention potential in women. There are significant variations in prevention potential across different regions in Europe.
