Pickering emulsifiers based on enzymatically modified quinoa starches: Preparation, microstructures, hydrophilic property and emulsifying property

Liang Zhang et al.

Summary: Quinoa starch was developed as a new Pickering emulsifier through enzymatic modification, with studies conducted on its structural characteristics, hydrophilic properties, and emulsifying properties. It was found that the smallest particle size and closest angle to 90 degrees resulted in the best emulsifying performance of EM-9. Additionally, EM quinoa starch showed higher emulsifying capacity at a higher oil volume fraction, indicating potential use in products with higher oil content.

Effect of cellulose nanocrystals on the formation and stability of oil-in-water emulsion formed by octenyl succinic anhydride starch

Jiaqi Li et al.

Summary: The study found that the CNCs-OSAS complex could stabilize oil-in-water emulsions, with higher viscosity and smaller diameter, delaying creaming of the emulsions. This provides a new perspective on the application of CNCs and OSAS in green emulsions.

Nanoemulsion of cinnamon essential oil Co-emulsified with hydroxypropyl-β-cyclodextrin and Tween-80: Antibacterial activity, stability and slow release performance

Kehong Hou et al.

Summary: This research focused on encapsulating essential oils in nanoemulsions using HPCD to enhance antimicrobial activity and stability. The addition of HPCD reduced nanoemulsion particle size, delayed release time of CEO, and contributed to increased antimicrobial activity. The study demonstrated the potential of HPCD to improve the effectiveness and storage stability of essential oil nanoemulsions.

HP-β-CD for the formulation of IgG and Ig-based biotherapeutics

Helen Haixia Wu et al.

Summary: The main challenge in developing high-concentration formulations (HCF) for IgG and Ig-based therapeutics is to achieve essential solubility, viscosity, and stability of these molecules. 2-Hydroxypropyl betacyclodextrin (HP-8-CD) has emerged as a promising excipient for HCF development, despite being used in chemical drugs for over thirty years. This review covers the various aspects of HP-8-CD application in pharmaceutical formulation and highlights the challenges and potential future directions in formulation manufacturing for IgG and Ig-based therapeutics.

Development of cellulose nanocrystal-stabilized Pickering emulsions of massoia and nutmeg essential oils for the control of Aedes albopictus

Seon-Mi Seo et al.

Summary: The study found that the essential oils from massoia and nutmeg have strong larvicidal activity against Aedes albopictus, with specific compounds playing important roles in the lethality. The cellulose nanocrystal-stabilized Pickering emulsions of these essential oils showed higher larvicidal activities compared to the crude oils, indicating their potential as larvicides.
