Preparation, characterization and immune activity of Codonopsis pilosula polysaccharide loaded in chitosan-graphene oxide

Mengke Sun et al.

Summary: The effects of CS-GO-CPP complex on the immune function of macrophage cells (RAW264.7) were investigated in this study. The results showed that CS-GO-CPP could significantly enhance the phagocytic activity of macrophages and increase the expression of immune molecules, potentially through the activation of the NF-Kappa B signaling pathway.

A novel low-molecular-mass pumpkin polysaccharide: Structural characterization, antioxidant activity, and hypoglycemic potential

Fei Li et al.

Summary: The novel low-molecular-mass polysaccharide, SLWPP-3, from pumpkin was isolated and purified, showing the ability to inhibit carbohydrate-digesting enzymes and radicals, as well as protect pancreatic cells from oxidative damage. This suggests SLWPP-3 as a potential natural product with hypoglycemic effects.

Maximizing yield of liquid-lignin from membrane filtration retentate of kraft black liquor

Kena Li et al.

Summary: The removal of lignin from kraft pulping black liquor poses challenges, such as acid consumption and effects on the Na/S balance in the pulp mill, which can be mitigated by a new process combining membrane filtration and liquid-lignin separation. The study found that the yield of liquid-lignin decreased with the addition of xylose and galactoglucomannan, suggesting a molecular-level interaction between lignin and hemicellulose. Heat treatment prior to separation improved the liquid-lignin yield, potentially due to a decrease in sugar content.
