Ca2+ signaling in plant responses to abiotic stresses

Qiuyan Dong et al.

Summary: Adverse variations of abiotic environmental cues can cause stress to plants, leading to reduced crop yield and negative impact on ecosystem stability. Ca2+ plays multifaceted roles in abiotic stress responses, serving as a versatile second messenger and connecting stress perception to signal transduction.

Overexpression of Zostera japonica heat shock protein gene ZjHsp70 enhances the thermotolerance of transgenic Arabidopsis

Siting Chen et al.

Summary: This study cloned the Hsp70 gene of Zostera japonica (ZjHsp70) and found that its transcript levels significantly increased 1 hour after heat treatment. Overexpression of ZjHsp70 improved heat tolerance, reduced malondialdehyde content, and increased antioxidant enzyme activity in Arabidopsis.

The co-chaperone HOP participates in TIR1 stabilisation and in auxin response in plants

Alfonso Munoz et al.

Summary: This study reveals the role of HOP family in plant development and its involvement in auxin signaling. HOP proteins interact and stabilize TIR1, a key component in auxin signal transduction, leading to reduced auxin sensitivity in the hop1 hop2 hop3 triple mutant. Additionally, HOP and SGT1b, another co-chaperone, synergistically cooperate in stabilizing common targets involved in plant development.

Mitogen-activated protein kinase TaMPK3 suppresses ABA response by destabilising TaPYL4 receptor in wheat

Ying Liu et al.

Summary: This study reveals the molecular mechanism of ABA signaling and MAPK cascade interaction in wheat. TaMPK3 overexpression decreases drought tolerance and sensitivity to ABA, while TaMPK3-RNAi enhances drought tolerance. The interaction module between TaMPK3 and TaPYL4 is conserved across monocots and dicots.

SlHSP17.7 Ameliorates Chilling Stress-Induced Damage by Regulating Phosphatidylglycerol Metabolism and Calcium Signal in Tomato Plants

Yuanyuan Wu et al.

Summary: In this study, it was found that the overexpression of SlHSP17.7 gene in tomatoes can improve their cold tolerance. This is achieved by enhancing membrane fluidity and activating the Ca2+ signaling pathway, resulting in the regulation of chilling tolerance in tomato plants.

Low Temperature Effect on Different Varieties of Corchorus capsularis and Corchorus olitorius at Seedling Stage

Susmita Dey et al.

Summary: The study revealed that varieties Y49 and M33 showed high chlorophyll and carotenoid content and could withstand low-temperature stress by accumulating different antioxidants. Osmolytes compounds significantly increased in Y49 and M33, serving as a defense mechanism for osmotic readjustment to reduce oxidative damage induced by low temperature. PCA and hierarchical cluster analysis identified three groups, with Y49 and M33 being low-temperature tolerant, M18 and W57 being intermediate, and Y38, T8, and Y1 being low temperature susceptible.

Mitochondrial ferritin attenuates cerebral ischaemia/reperfusion injury by inhibiting ferroptosis

Peina Wang et al.

Summary: Ischaemic stroke is a common cerebral disease in aging populations, with excess iron potentially contributing to brain damage. Research has shown that lack of mitochondrial ferritin exacerbates brain injury and neurological deficits, while its overexpression reverses these effects.

TaPHT1;9-4B and its transcriptional regulator TaMYB4-7D contribute to phosphate uptake and plant growth in bread wheat

Pengfei Wang et al.

Summary: TaPHT1;9-4B and TaMYB4-7D play important roles in phosphate uptake, translocation, and plant growth in bread wheat. TaPHT1;9-4B was identified through quantitative proteomics, while TaMYB4-7D activates TaPHT1;9-4B expression to influence phosphate uptake and plant growth.
