Phenotypic and genomic analysis reveals Riemerella anatipestifer as the potential reservoir of tet(X) variants

Ruichao Li et al.

Summary: This study confirms the high prevalence of tet(X) in R. anatipestifer. Further investigations are needed to assess the transfer risk of tet(X) from R. anatipestifer to other clinical pathogens.

Widespread prevalence and molecular epidemiology of tet(X4) and mcr-1 harboring Escherichia coli isolated from chickens in Pakistan

Ruichao Li et al.

Summary: This study described the molecular epidemiology of tet(X4) and mcr-1 harboring E. coli strains of chicken origin in Pakistan, with over 30 isolates showing high levels of tigecycline and colistin resistance. Various plasmid carriers and co-transfer frequencies were observed. The findings provide new insights for preventing and controlling the spread of antibiotic resistance genes.

Summary: This study identified Escherichia coli isolates carrying multiple resistance genes tet(X4), mcr-1, and bla(NDM-5) in pigeons. Measures should be taken to reduce the prevalence of these resistant pathogens.

Coexistence of blaNDM-5 and tet(X4) in international high-risk Escherichia coli clone ST648 of human origin in China

Muhammad Shafiq et al.

Summary: This study reports the first incident of a bla(NDM-5) and tet(X4) co-harboring Escherichia coli with resistance to carbapenem and tigecycline recovered as the causative agent of a urinary tract infection in a 94-year-old patient. The strain ECCL209 carries multiple resistance genes and exhibits resistance to almost all clinically used antibiotics. MLST analysis found that the strain belongs to the worldwide high-risk pandemic clone ST648, and multiple plasmid incompatibility types were detected.

Emergence of an Extensive Drug Resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa Strain of Chicken Origin Carrying bla(IMP-45), tet(X6), and tmexCD3-toprJ3 on an Inc(pRBL16) Plasmid

Ning Dong et al.

Summary: This study reports the first occurrence of extensively drug-resistant Pseudomonas aeruginosa strain PA166-2 carrying bla(IMP-45), tet(X6), and tmexCD3-toprJ3 on a single plasmid in chickens. The strain, belonging to ST313, was resistant to last-line antibiotics and the plasmid belonged to the incompatibility group Inc(pRBL16). The emergence of plasmid-mediated tigecycline resistance genes and carbapenemase genes from chickens expanded the global transmission of vital resistance genes. Control measures should be implemented to prevent further dissemination of such strains.
