In-situ DIC measurement of material deformation through spatial-temporal kinematics analysis during orthogonal cutting Ti6Al4V

Kai Ma et al.

Summary: There is a strong relationship between material deformation and cutting conditions in the machining process. In-situ measurement of continuous material deformation behaviors in the shear zone during machining is required. This study proposes a spatio-temporal kinematics approach with in-situ DIC measurement to analyze the material deformation during orthogonal cutting of Ti6Al4V. Image processing, digital image correlation, and high-speed photography techniques are utilized to analyze the spatial-temporal kinematics of material plastic deformation. The research results provide valuable insights into the dynamic mechanism of material plastic deformation during the manufacturing process.

Analysis of grain tribology and improved grinding temperature model based on discrete heat source

Mingzheng Liu et al.

Summary: The existing theoretical model of grinding temperature is based on grain homogeneity and continuous heat source distribution, ignoring the influence of interference between effective grains and the workpiece on temperature. This study proposes an improved temperature model based on a discrete heat source, which reveals the temperature variation law of a workpiece in an actual grinding process.

Minimum quantity lubrication machining of aeronautical materials using carbon group nanolubricant: From mechanisms to application

Xin Cui et al.

Summary: Replacing flood and dry machining with minimum quantity lubrication (MQL) technology is an inevitable trend of sustainable manufacturing. However, MQL cannot meet the high demand for cooling and lubrication in the machining of aeronautical difficult-to-machine materials. This study focuses on the comprehensive quantitative assessment of tribological characteristics in titanium alloy and nickel alloy machining using nano-biolubricants, specifically non-toxic carbon group nano-enhancers (CGNs), aiming to systematically answer the machining mechanisms under lubrication of CGNs.

Advances in fabrication of ceramic corundum abrasives based on sol-gel process

Baoteng Huang et al.

Summary: Corundum abrasives are widely used in precision machining, but they cannot meet the requirements of difficult-to-machine materials. Ceramic corundum abrasives fabricated by sol-gel method offer a cost-effective solution with self-sharpening and high toughness. Optimization methods for ceramic corundum abrasive properties include precursor synthesis, particle shaping, sintering, and the use of new sintering techniques to improve microstructural and mechanical performance.

Influence of ultrasonic vibration-assisted cutting on ploughing effect in cutting Ti6Al4V

Feiyang Chen et al.

Summary: The study utilized the finite element method to investigate the ploughing effect of ultrasonic vibration-assisted cutting Ti6Al4V. The research focused on establishing mechanical models of the ploughing area and verified the correctness of the analysis model. Results indicate that ultrasonic vibration-assisted cutting can significantly reduce ploughing force and temperature, therefore decreasing tool wear and plastic deformation of the machined surface.
