Scavenger receptor a is a major homeostatic regulator that restrains drug-induced liver injury

Chunqing Guo et al.

Summary: The immune receptor SRA plays an important role in regulating hepatic inflammation and drug-induced liver injury. Loss of SRA in mice leads to increased susceptibility to drug hepatotoxicity, accompanied by decreased IL-10 production and excessive hepatic inflammation. Further experiments showed that SRA-facilitated IL-10 production by immune cells mitigates hepatocyte injury and improves protection against drug-induced liver injury.

Summary: This study identified two functionally distinct subsets of neutrophils, ANP(high) and ANP(low) neutrophils. They differed in cell surface marker expression, transcriptomic profiles, and capacities to kill bacteria and produce inflammatory mediators.

Two Faces of Neutrophils in Liver Disease Development and Progression

Yeonhee Cho et al.

Summary: Neutrophils, the most abundant type of leukocyte in human blood, play a major role in host defense against invading pathogens and in sterile injury. However, under chronic inflammatory conditions, neutrophils may lose their self-resolving capabilities and maintain an inflammatory phenotype, exacerbating tissue damage. This review aims to provide a better understanding of how neutrophils interact with tissue microenvironments and acquire disease-specific phenotypes in various liver diseases.
