Protection of adipose-derived mesenchymal stromal cells during acute lung injury requires autophagy maintained by mTOR

Yue Hu et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates that adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADSCs) alleviate inflammatory responses and tissue damage in acute lung injury (ALI). Autophagy plays a key role in the therapeutic efficacy of ADSCs, and is regulated by the mammalian target of rapamycin (mTOR). These findings provide important insights into the therapeutic strategy paradigm for ALI.

Therapeutic Potential of Mesenchymal Stem Cells and Their Products in Lung Diseases-Intravenous Administration versus Inhalation

Eleonore Frohlich

Summary: The number of publications studying the therapeutic use of stem cells has been steadily increasing since 2000, with little interest in the evaluation of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) for respiratory diseases. Inhalation of MSCs may offer advantages in reducing cell damage and improving treatment efficacy, but challenges such as product heterogeneity and differences in treatment protocols still exist.
