New sesquiterpene dilactone and β-carboline alkaloid and the α-glucosidase inhibitory activity of selected phytochemicals from Neolitsea cassia (L.) Kosterm

Nor Akmalazura Jani et al.

Summary: In this study, a new sesquiterpene dilactone and a new beta-carboline alkaloid were isolated from the stems and leaves of Neolitsea cassia, along with 10 known compounds. Some of these compounds demonstrated inhibitory activity towards alpha-glucosidase enzymatic activity, indicating potential for treating diabetes. This is the first report on the isolation of phytochemicals from N. cassia and their bioactivities.

Involvement of circHIPK3 in the pathogenesis of diabetic cardiomyopathy in mice

Wenjing Wang et al.

Summary: The study revealed that knockdown of circHIPK3 attenuated myocardial fibrosis and enhanced cardiac function in DCM mice, and could suppress proliferation of cardiac fibroblasts treated with angiotensin II. Furthermore, RNA immunoprecipitation and luciferase reporter assay demonstrated a circHIPK3-miR-29b-3p-Col1a1-Col3a1 regulatory network in the pathogenesis of myocardial fibrosis.
