Differentially Expressed Inflammation-Regulating MicroRNAs in Oligoarticular Juvenile Idiopathic Arthritis

Sarah M. McAlpine et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the expression of microRNAs in synovial fluid, plasma, and leukocytes from patients with juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA). The results showed dysregulated expression of multiple microRNAs in JIA, both locally and systemically. These findings provide important insights into the pathogenesis of JIA and may have implications for targeted therapies.

Oxidative stress in intervertebral disc degeneration: Molecular mechanisms, pathogenesis and treatment

Yidian Wang et al.

Summary: Low back pain is a major cause of labour loss and disability worldwide, with intervertebral disc degeneration being responsible for approximately 40% of symptomatic cases. Current treatment options for disc degeneration, such as conservative and surgical approaches, fail to address the root cause. Therefore, understanding the pathogenic mechanisms and exploring targeted therapeutic strategies is crucial.

Single-Cell RNA-Seq Analysis of Cells from Degenerating and Non-Degenerating Intervertebral Discs from the Same Individual Reveals New Biomarkers for Intervertebral Disc Degeneration

Hosni Cherif et al.

Summary: In this study, single-cell transcriptomic analysis was used to identify new biomarkers for nucleus pulposus (NP) and inner annulus fibrosis (iAF) cells in intervertebral discs (IVD). The analysis also provided insights into the cell populations within non-degenerating and degenerating IVD. The findings suggest potential functional differences linked to degeneration and among NP and iAF subpopulations, and also propose specific cell type and predictive IVD degeneration genes.

Copper induces cell death by targeting lipoylated TCA cycle proteins

Peter Tsvetkov et al.

Summary: Copper is an essential cofactor for all organisms, but excessive copper can lead to cell death. We found that copper-dependent cell death mechanism is different from known mechanisms, and it is related to mitochondrial respiration. Copper directly binds to lipoylated components of the tricarboxylic acid cycle, causing protein aggregation and loss of iron-sulfur cluster proteins, ultimately leading to cell death.

Summary: This study systematically evaluated the genetic alterations of cuproptosis-related genes in clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC) and constructed a prognostic signature of these genes. The results suggest that the cuproptosis-related gene signature may serve as a potential prognostic predictor for ccRCC patients and is associated with immune infiltration levels and PD-1 expression.

A novel Cuproptosis-related LncRNA signature to predict prognosis in hepatocellular carcinoma

Genhao Zhang et al.

Summary: This study established a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) signature associated with Cuproptosis, which can predict survival and immune therapy response in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients. By analyzing experimental data, it was found that these lncRNAs are related to the development of HCC and infiltration of immune cells, and a predictive model with good potential was developed.
