Stenian sediments (<1065 Ma) and Tonian A- and I-type magmatism (1000-970 Ma) along the western margin of the central Aravalli orogen, NW India: Petrogenetic and geodynamic implications

Parampreet Kaur et al.

Summary: This study investigates the Meso-to Neoproterozoic tectonic evolution of the Aravalli orogen in northwestern India by analyzing isotopic-geochemical constraints on magmatic and sedimentary rocks. The results suggest that the region underwent a transformation from a passive margin to an accretionary orogenic terrane between 1065 and 1000 Ma. The post-collisional magmatism and extension occurred until 970 Ma. The findings provide valuable insights into the geological history of NW India during this time period.

Association of A- and I-type granitoids in the central Aravalli orogen, Rajasthan: Implications for the Neoproterozoic tectonic evolution of north-west India

Jaideep K. Tiwana et al.

Summary: This study highlights the petrogenesis and tectonic setting of the Neoproterozoic Sendra Granitoid Suite in central Aravalli orogen, north-west India, showing that the rocks were mainly generated by high-temperature partial melting of mafic sources with high field strength element enrichment, and were emplaced in a post-collisional extensional regime.

Tonian and Cryogenian - Early Cambrian sedimentation in NW India: Implications on the transition from Rodinia to Gondwana

Jun Zhang et al.

Summary: The geological record in NW India provides vital information for studying the tectonic evolution and Gondwana transition. The Punagarh and Sindreth basins exhibit characteristics of a back-arc basin setting, while the Marwar Supergroup represents sedimentation in a tectonically stable basin. These findings are in agreement with the subduction of the peripheral Rodinia supercontinent and the Gondwana assembly.

Detrital zircon U-Pb-Hf isotope record of conglomerates in the southern Aravalli orogen, NW India: Implications for stratigraphy, provenance and Archean to Paleoproterozoic crustal evolution

Parampreet Kaur et al.

Summary: The inconsistent stratigraphic framework of the Proterozoic successions in the Aravalli orogen hinders the reconstruction of its geodynamic evolution. This study provides new results of detrital zircon grains from conglomerate samples, revealing their maximum depositional ages and indicating the earlier deposition of these conglomerates compared to previous concepts. The zircon age-Hf isotope data also provide evidence for a series of crust formation and reworking events in the Aravalli orogen and all over India.

Tectonic Fabric, Geochemistry, and Zircon-Monazite Geochronology as Proxies to Date an Orogeny: Example of South Delhi Orogeny, NW India, and Implications for East Gondwana Tectonics

Subhash Singh et al.

Summary: The South Delhi orogeny in NW India was dated using tectonic fabric, geochemistry, and zircon-monazite geochronology, suggesting it occurred around 878-680 Ma, marking the final amalgamation of Marwar Craton with the rest of India. This event overlaps with the early phase of the Pan-African orogeny (900-630 Ma) and the Kuunga orogeny (650-500 Ma), indicating that India underwent amalgamation of internal blocks until the late part of the Neoproterozoic, similar to other continents in the East Gondwana.

Archean to Proterozoic (3535-900 Ma) crustal evolution of the central Aravalli Banded Gneissic Complex, NW India: New constraints from zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopes and geochemistry

Parampreet Kaur et al.

Summary: The Central Aravalli Banded Gneissic Complex in northwest India is a Proterozoic terrane with Archean components, consisting of granulites, granitoids, TTG gneisses, and metasedimentary rocks. Zircon U-Pb-Hf isotopes and whole-rock geochemical data reveal a complex history of magmatic intrusions and crustal evolution in the region, with evidence of early Paleoarchean crust formation and later Grenville-age metamorphic events. The composition and origins of different rock types, such as Neoarchean TTGs and Paleoproterozoic A-type granitoids, provide insights into the geological processes that shaped the Aravalli orogen.
