What a few hairs can tell us about the resource use of giant armadillos

Summary: Understanding the resource use of vulnerable species is crucial for conservation planning. This study investigated the resource use of giant armadillos using stable isotopes in hair samples. The results showed individual variations in resource use, with different individuals consuming prey from distinct resources and occupying different habitat types. Most giant armadillos had a mixed diet, but some individuals had strict diets. Males were more likely to forage on specific resources, and subadults and adults showed differences in habitat preference and foraging behavior.
