Identification of the neuropeptide gene family and feeding regulation by neuropeptide Y in Mythimna separata (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae)

Summary: In this study, we identified 50 neuropeptides including neuropeptide Y (NPY) of Mythimna separata using transcriptome sequencing. The spatial and temporal expression profile of NPY indicated its important role in feeding regulation and energy metabolism. Knockdown of NPY significantly inhibited food uptake and body weight, delayed developmental duration, and altered energy storage in M. separata larvae.

The short neuropeptide F receptor regulates olfaction-mediated foraging behavior in the oriental fruit fly Bactrocera dorsalis (Hendel)

Summary: By using the CRISPR/Cas9 system, a null sNPFR mutant was successfully generated to investigate its physiological roles in the oriental fruit fly. The mutants showed significant differences in foraging behavior and responses to odorants, as well as inhibition of several olfactory receptor genes. The data suggest that sNPFR plays a regulatory role in olfaction-mediated foraging behavior by interacting with specific cells and odorant receptor neurons.

Deformed Mediated Larval Incisor Lobe Development Causes Differing Feeding Behavior between Oriental Armyworm and Fall Armyworm

Summary: The Hox gene Dfd plays an important role in the development of incisor lobes and feeding behavior in the oriental armyworm, but its function in the fall armyworm is unclear. This study found that knockdown of the Dfd gene resulted in malformed mandibles with no incisor lobe in the oriental armyworm, affecting its feeding pattern. However, the knockdown of Dfd did not have the same effect on the fall armyworm. These findings broaden our knowledge of the function of Dfd in mandibles and feeding behavior in insects.
