The present work focuses on the synthesis and characterization of a new water soluble dinuclear Cu(II) complex as a potential chemotherapeutic drug. The complex was thoroughly characterized and its intermolecular characteristics and DNA binding mode were investigated. The complex exhibited efficient and selective cytotoxicity against A549 cancer cell line.
The present work focuses on the synthesis and characterization of a new water soluble mu-diaqua bridged dinu-clear Cu(II) complex (complex 1) as an efficient chemotherapeutic drug candidate. Complex 1 was thoroughly characterized by various spectral and analytical techniques. DFT studies were employed to determine the HOMO-LUMO energies and electron density localization in the complex 1. The different intermolecular char-acteristics that support the crystal stability in complex 1 were examined by Hirshfeld surface analysis. The corroborative results of DNA binding studies of complex 1 were suggestive of an electrostatic binding mode. Furthermore, in vitro cytotoxicity assessment of complex 1 against A549 and MDA-MB-231 cancer cell lines revealed its efficient and selective cytotoxicity for A549 cancer cell line.
