Microwave mediated synthesis of layered MoS2 nanostructures and its conversion to MoO3 nanoparticles

Few-layer nanosheets of MoS2 were synthesized in a household microwave oven using ammonium heptamolybdate, thiourea, and hydrazine hydrate in ethylene glycol. The binding energy values of 226.1 eV (S 2s) and 229.16, 232.16 eV for Mo 3d confirmed the formation of MoS2. The obtained MoS2 nanosheets were converted to phase pure nanoplatelets of MoO3 through a sintering process, with an average crystallite size of about 30-35 nm.
