Ranking of potential hazards from microplastics polymers in the marine environment

Zhihao Yuan et al.

Summary: This study developed a risk assessment model to rank microplastics (MPs) of potential health concern in marine exposure pathways. The model considered parameters such as toxicity potential, particle size distribution, and degradation status. The screening strategy identified certain polymers as top-ranking contributors to the risk. The findings can inform scientific community and policymakers for better management of MPs.

SO2-enhanced nitrate photolysis on TiO2 minerals: A vital role of photochemically reactive holes

Huan Shang et al.

Summary: This study investigated the photolysis of nitrate on photoactive TiO2 particles in the presence of SO2. The results showed that in a clean atmosphere, nitrate was oxidized to ·NO3 radicals by photogenerated holes, and reactive nitrate species were produced through reduction by photoinduced electrons. In a SO2-polluted environment, ·NO3 radicals preferentially reacted with sulfites to significantly increase nitrogen species formation.

Supported Pd nanoparticles on micro structured chitosan-MgAl layered double hydroxide hydrogel beads as a sustainable, effective, and recyclable nanocatalyst for Heck cross-coupling reactions

Huri Dilruba Guzel et al.

Summary: In this study, a heterogeneous nano-system with sustainable, green, highly effective, and easily recoverable properties was developed through deposition of palladium nanoparticles on chitosan-MgAl layered double hydroxide hydrogel beads (CS-MgAl LDH). The catalytic activity of Pd-CS-MgAl LDH was explored in Heck cross coupling reaction, and it was found to be an effective and useful nanocatalyst which can couple different aryl halides with high yields. The Pd-CS-MgAl LDH nano catalyst showed higher catalytic performance compared to other reported catalysts and displayed good recoverability and practical application potential.

Nanochemistry approach for the fabrication of Fe and N co-decorated biomass-derived activated carbon frameworks: a promising oxygen reduction reaction electrocatalyst in neutral media

Hassan Karimi-Maleh et al.

Summary: This study successfully improved the performance of the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) in neutral media by tailoring a biomass-derived ORR electrocatalyst. The iron- and nitrogen-doped activated carbon framework showed superior ORR activity and long-term stability. The catalyst also demonstrated lower onset potential and better resistance to sulfur poisoning compared to the traditional platinum-based catalyst, paving the way for the development of low-cost nanocatalysts.

Immobilizing palladium on melamine-functionalized magnetic nanoparticles: An efficient and reusable phosphine-free catalyst for Mizoroki-Heck reaction

Fezzeh Aryanasab et al.

Summary: The study presents a highly efficient and stable heterogeneous catalyst prepared by anchoring palladium onto melamine-functionalized Fe3O4 magnetic nanoparticles, which showed excellent catalytic activity for C-C cross coupling reactions. The catalyst can be easily separated and recovered, and can be reused multiple times without significant loss of activity.
