Photochromic Polyoxoniobates with Photoinduced D-f-A Electron Transfer Mechanism

Hao Yu et al.

Summary: In this work, organophosphate and lanthanide cluster were successfully integrated into polyoxoniobates (PONbs) to create the first family of inorganic-organic hybrid organophosphate-Ln-PONb composite clusters. These novel species not only exhibit the redox activity of PONbs that can form long-lived heteropoly blues under ambient conditions, but also possess photochromic properties. The discovery of a D-f-A electron transfer mechanism through the analysis of electronic configurations and photochromic properties opens up possibilities for developing diverse PONb-based redox materials and expanding the applications of PONbs in redox chemistry.

An unprecedented hybrid polyoxometalate based on niobium oligomers: A notable application as redox supercapacitor electrode

Rodrigo L. Lavall et al.

Summary: A stable blue solid composite, called blue polyoxoniobate (blue-PONb), was obtained by converting a methylene blue (MB) dye solution into a blue nanogel through a lyophilization process. This new material, blue-PONb, exhibits exceptional electrochemical performance and serves as a promising supercapacitor electrode, demonstrating high areal specific capacitance and power density. It also maintains high cycling performance with a coulombic efficiency of approximately 99% over 50,000 cycles. The electrochemical stability and operational mechanism of the blue-PONb electrode are analyzed and discussed in this study, presenting PONb as a new and promising class of redox-capacitive materials with matrix/redox shuttle synergism.
