Platinum(IV) Complexes with Tridentate, NNC-Coordinating Ligands: Synthesis, Structures, and Luminescence

Yana M. Dikova et al.

Summary: Platinum(II) complexes of NNC-cyclometalating ligands based on 6-phenyl-2,2 '-bipyridine (HL1) have been extensively studied for their luminescence properties. Oxidation of PtL1Cl and its analogues with differently substituted aryl rings, PtL2-6Cl, by chlorine and/or iodobenzene dichloride generates Pt(IV) compounds of the form Pt(NNC-Ln)Cl3 (n = 1-6). These PtLnCl3 compounds react with 2-arylpyridines to form a new class of Pt(IV) complexes [Pt(NNC)(NC)Cl]+. The UV-vis absorption spectra and phosphorescence properties of these complexes are affected by the electron richness of the aryl ring.

Synthesis, characterization and emission switching behaviors of styrylphenyl-conjugated Ru(II)-terpyridine complexes via aggregation and trans-cis photoisomerization

Tanusree Ganguly et al.

Summary: An array of styrylphenyl-conjugated Ru(II)-terpyridine complexes were designed and their photophysical and electrochemical characteristics were investigated. The compounds exhibited aggregation-induced emission quenching and enhancement due to the presence of polyaromatic units. Styrylphenyl units allowed the photoisomerization from trans-trans to trans-cis in both free and aggregated forms of the complexes under visible light, which could be reverted back by UV light. The rate constant and quantum yield of photoisomerization decreased with the extent of aggregation. Theoretical analysis using density functional theory (DFT) and time-dependent DFT methods was also performed for band assignment and understanding of the photoisomerization process.

Exploitation of the Second Coordination Sphere to Promote Significant Increase of Room-Temperature Luminescence Lifetime and Anion Sensing in Ruthenium-Terpyridine Complexes

Sourav Deb et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the synthesis, characterization, and photophysical behaviors of three Ru(II)-terpyridine complexes derived from a terpyridyl-imidazole ligand. The complexes exhibit strong emission at room temperature with excited-state lifetimes dependent on co-ligands and solvents. Protonation of the imidazole nitrogen(s) with perchloric acid leads to significant enhancement of emission intensity, quantum yield, and lifetime. The complexes are capable of visually recognizing cyanide ions in aqueous medium.

Hao Wang et al.

Summary: The properties of cyclometalated diruthenium complexes bridged by H-tbibp have been investigated through experiments and computational analysis, revealing the high effectiveness of H-tbibp in mediating Ru-Ru coupling. The combination of different terminal ligands shows variations in electronic transfer efficiency.
