Epidemiology of Fractures Following Electric Scooter Injury

Summary: This review investigated the epidemiological characteristics of fractures related to e-scooter accidents through a systematic review of published studies. The majority of fractures in e-scooter accidents were caused by falls (84.8%), followed by e-scooter motor vehicle accidents (7.4%) and collisions (5.5%). Upper limb fractures were the most prevalent (65%), with radial fractures being the most common (28.2%). Lower limb fractures occurred in 25.3% of patients, with tibial fractures being the most common (8.4%).

Facial injury patterns associated with stand-up electric scooters in unhelmeted riders

Summary: In recent years, there has been a rapid increase in the number of people riding stand-up electric scooters in South Korea. This study analyzed facial injury patterns associated with stand-up electric scooter-related trauma and emphasized the importance of wearing protective devices, such as helmets and masks, to prevent facial trauma. The study found that male patients were more prone to these injuries, and most accidents occurred after alcohol consumption, without wearing helmets. The most common facial soft tissue injury was in the chin area, and the most common acute facial osseous fracture was in the orbit. The findings of this study can help in the quick evaluation and treatment of patients with facial trauma related to stand-up electric scooters.
