Passively Q-switched operation of a Tm:YAP laser with two WS2-based saturable absorbers

Xiaolin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, a doubly passively Q-switched Tm:YAP laser with two WS2-based saturable absorbers (SAs) was experimentally realized for the first time. The experimental results show that the doubly PQS technology is an efficient method to further compress the pulse width, enhance the stability of the pulses train, and improve the average output power (AOP) for the Tm:YAP laser.

Rui Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a novel two-dimensional material Bi2O2Se was used as a saturable absorber in a resonator to achieve efficient operation of a passively Q-switched Tm:YAP laser for the first time. In the passive Q-switching mode, an average output power of 1.62 W with a pulse width of 1.24 μs and a pulse repetition frequency of 112.1 kHz was achieved at a pump power of 22.2 W, corresponding to a peak power of 11.66 W. The results demonstrate the potential of Bi2O2Se as a photomodulator in the 2 μm spectral range.

Nonlinear optical properties of graphdiyne/graphene van der Waals heterostructure for laser modulations

Qingyue Zhang et al.

Summary: The construction of van der Waals heterostructures (vdWHs) is a promising approach for creating new materials with exotic functionalities and extraordinary optical properties in the field of laser modulations. This paper investigates the optical nonlinearities of graphdiyne/graphene vdWH (GDY/G) and demonstrates its potential for pulse laser generation and spatial self-phase modulation (SSPM). The experimental results show that GDY/G possesses larger potentials and brighter prospects in laser modulations.

CdS@CdSe Core/Shell Quantum Dots for Highly Improved Self-Powered Photodetection Performance

You Zi et al.

Summary: Uniform and well-defined cadmium sulfide@cadmium selenide core/shell quantum dots (CdS@CdSe QDs) were successfully synthesized for the first time using a solvothermal method and chemical bath growth. The as-synthesized CdS@CdSe QDs exhibit superior self-powered photoresponse behavior, excellent stability, and significantly improved current densities and photoresponsivity compared to individual CdS QDs or CdSe QDs. These properties are mainly attributed to the built-in electric field, suggesting great potential in the fields of renewable energy and carbon neutrality target achievement.

Ta2NiSe5 nanosheets as a novel broadband saturable absorber for solid-state pulse laser generation

Bingzheng Yan et al.

Summary: High-quality 2D tantalum nickel selenide nanosheets with excellent broadband saturable absorption properties were successfully fabricated in this study. Utilizing Ta2NiSe5 nanosheets as saturable absorbers, three passively Q-switched solid-state lasers and a mode-locked laser with pulse width as short as 356 fs were realized. This work not only demonstrates the excellent nonlinear optical properties of Ta2NiSe5, but also opens up possibilities for exploring the photonic and optoelectronic properties of ternary chalcogenide materials.
