Ubiquitination of susceptibility proteins modulates rice broad-spectrum resistance

Ruyi Wang et al.

Summary: Dysfunction of susceptibility genes can lead to plant resistance to broad-spectrum resistance (BSR). A rice ubiquitin E3 ligase degrades the ortholog of a plant thermosensor to positively regulate blast resistance. Recent research also shows that this E3 ligase ubiquitinates a Ca2+ sensor to mediate rice BSR, expanding our understanding of susceptibility protein ubiquitination for plant BSR.

Total and Mitochondrial Transcriptomic and Proteomic Insights into Regulation of Bioenergetic Processes for Shoot Fast-Growth Initiation in Moso Bamboo

Xiaojing Wang et al.

Summary: This study compares the transcriptomes and proteomes of spring and winter shoots of Moso bamboo and finds that genes and proteins related to energy metabolism are upregulated in spring shoots, leading to decreases in starch and soluble sugar, increase in ATP content, and higher rates of respiration and glycolysis. The upregulated genes and proteins related to mitochondrial fission in spring shoots increase the number of mitochondria, indirectly promoting intracellular energy metabolism. Enhanced alternate-oxidase and uncoupled-protein pathways in winter shoots suggest the importance of an efficient energy-dissipating system for adaptation to low-temperature environment. Heterologous expression experiments confirm the functional roles of these genes.

Abd ElAziz T. Bondok et al.

Summary: This study assessed the phenotypical, physiological, and molecular responses of five teosinte genotypes to prolonged drought. The results showed that drought had negative effects on growth and yield, but promoted the accumulation of protective substances. The study also identified genotypes with higher drought tolerance. These findings are of great significance for breeding programs and addressing the challenges of drought.

Yucheng Mao et al.

Summary: In this study, the PnbZIP family in Panax notoginseng was systematically identified and analyzed for its phylogeny, tissue selectivity, and resistance to abiotic stress. The results showed that the PnbZIP gene had tissue-specific expressions, with the highest expression level in flowers. Different expressions of PnbZIPs in roots were observed under the stress of ammonium nitrogen fertilizer and nitrate nitrogen fertilizer. Additionally, 10 stress-responsive genes were screened, among which PnbZIP46 was significantly up-regulated and could be a candidate gene for resistance to Nitrogen stress.

PhePLATZ1, a PLATZ transcription factor in moso bamboo (Phyllostachys edulis), improves drought resistance of transgenic Arabidopsis thaliana

Kaimei Zhang et al.

Summary: Drought is a serious environmental stress, and understanding the mechanisms behind plant drought resistance is crucial. In this study, researchers identified and studied the expression of the PhePLATZ1 gene in moso bamboo. They found that overexpression of PhePLATZ1 improved drought stress resistance in transgenic plants by regulating osmotic regulation, enhancing water retention capacity, and reducing membrane and oxidative damage. The researchers also discovered that PhePLATZ1 plays a positive regulatory role in drought resistance via the ABA signaling pathway. These findings provide valuable insights into the drought response mechanisms of moso bamboo and offer a potential candidate gene for molecular breeding to enhance drought tolerance in this species.
