A systemic review on medicinal plants and their bioactive constituents against avian influenza and further confirmation through in-silico analysis

Ashit Kumar Dutta et al.

Summary: This review provides information on different natural plant sources that can help combat bird flu. The results show that most plant extracts inhibit viral entry or release by interacting with viral hemagglutinin or neuraminidase. Some plants also reduce viral RNA replication or proinflammatory cytokines.

Bioactivity Screening of Thirty Black Turmeric (Curcuma caesia Roxb.) Essential Oils Against Free Radicals and MDR Isolates

Snehalata Khuntia et al.

Summary: This study compared the antioxidant and antimicrobial activities of essential oils from 30 different rhizomes and leaves of Curcuma caesia Roxb. collected from various eco-regions of Eastern India. The leaf essential oils exhibited higher antioxidant potential, while the rhizome essential oils showed better inhibitory activity against multidrug-resistant strains. The identified accession Cc 26 with better bioactivity potential may be useful in future drug formulations.

Essential Oil Chemotypes of Four Vietnamese Curcuma Species Cultivated in North Alabama

Lam Duong et al.

Summary: Curcuma species are important for culinary and medicinal purposes, as their essential oils possess various pharmacological properties such as anti-inflammatory, anticancerous, and antioxidant activities. They also enhance immune function, promote blood circulation, and aid in digestion. Curcuma longa and Curcuma zedoaria are the most extensively studied species due to their high commercial value. There is increasing interest in expanding the cultivation of Curcuma species in North America. This study examined the essential oil composition of four Curcuma species cultivated in North Alabama, and found their potential use in medical and medicinal plant oil markets in the U.S.

Intraspecific Chemical Variability of Essential Oil ofCurcuma caesia(Black Turmeric)

Subhashree Singh et al.

Summary: The study on the rhizome essential oil of Curcuma caesia from Odisha and West Bengal revealed significant intraspecific variability in terms of chemical composition and yield. Two distinct groups of essential oils were identified based on phytoconstituents, with Mayurbhanj having the highest oil yield and South 24-Parganas the lowest. The chemical constituents were predominantly oxygenated monoterpenes and sesquiterpenes, with variations in composition between the two geographical regions.
