Functional natural wood-plastic composites: A review of antimicrobial properties and their influencing factors

A facile preparation process of polyhexamethylene biguanide/cellulose/polylactic acid fiber composite antibacterial paper

Summary: A biodegradable and antibacterial composite paper (SP/CFPLA-6%) was prepared using cellulose, polylactic acid non-woven fabric, and antibacterial short fiber as raw materials through wet papermaking process. Compared with traditional cellulose paper, SP/CFPLA-6% exhibited a decrease of 84.2% in water vapor transmittance, indicating significant hydrophobicity. The tensile strength of SP/CFPLA-6% reached 95.8 MPa, which is more than 70 MPa higher than that of ordinary cellulose paper, demonstrating promising antibacterial activity against Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus. Furthermore, SP/CFPLA-6% showed excellent biodegradability in biodegradation experiments, making it a suitable substitute for traditional non-degradable plastic packaging materials.

Superhydrophobic Modification of Sansevieria trifasciata Natural Fibres: A Promising Reinforcement for Wood Plastic Composites

Summary: In this study, silica nanoparticles and fluorosilane were used to modify the surface of Sansevieria trifasciata fibre (STF) and achieve superhydrophobic properties. The results showed that nanoscale SiO2 particles were deposited on the STF surface and linked to PFOTS, resulting in a hydrophilic to superhydrophobic transformation of the fibre. This non-toxic and simple method opens new opportunities for natural fibres as reinforcement materials in composites.

The modified WPC showed improved properties such as high tensile and flexural strength, water and corrosion resistance, UV resistance, and thermal stability. With its potential for sustainable development, WPC-10%CS can be widely used as a functional material both indoors and outdoors.

MOF-Integrated Hierarchical Composite Fiber for Efficient Daytime Radiative Cooling and Antibacterial Protective Textiles

This study presents a hierarchical polyurethane/metal-organic framework composite nano-fiber membrane with integrated radiative cooling and antibacterial properties. Furthermore, the membrane exhibits a high bacterial mortality rate, making it desirable for medical protective textiles.
