Synthesis and Characterization of Green Polyurethane Coatings Derived from Niger-Seed-Oil-Based Polyesteramide Polyols

Ranjeet B. Doke et al.

Summary: Polymeric researchers are exploring the use of renewable resources like Niger seed oil to create polymeric resins for coatings, aiming to reduce reliance on fossil or petroleum feedstock. In this study, polyurethane coatings are developed from synthesized polyesteramide polyols, demonstrating varying properties such as hardness, gloss, hydrophobicity, and chemical resistance based on the type of biobased dicarboxylic acids used (phthalic, itaconic, dimer).

Valorization of camelina oil to biobased materials and biofuels for new industrial uses: a review

Muhammad Arshad et al.

Summary: Global environmental pollution, particularly the release of carbon dioxide from the use of petroleum derived materials, is a growing concern. There is a need to explore renewable raw materials, such as vegetable oils, for the production of bio-based products. Non-edible plant oils are gaining interest for industrial applications, and camelina oil has emerged as a potential feedstock for the manufacture of lower carbon footprint, bio-based products. This review provides an overview of camelina oil, its production and composition, and summarizes recent data on its valorization for various industrial applications.

Synthesis of Isostearic Acid/Dimer Fatty Acid-Based Polyesteramide Polyol for the Development of Green Polyurethane Coatings

Pavan M. Paraskar et al.

Summary: Bio-based polyurethane coatings were prepared using novel branched isostearic acid and long chains dimer fatty acid. The results showed that the coatings exhibited good hydrophobicity, flexibility, and impact resistance, with PU-T coating showing higher thermal, mechanical, and coating properties compared to PU-H coating.

Camelina, an ancient oilseed crop actively contributing to the rural renaissance in Europe. A review

Federica Zanetti et al.

Summary: Promoting crop diversification in European agriculture can enhance crop productivity, quality, and resilience while reducing environmental stresses. Camelina, with its broad environmental adaptability, low-input requirements, resistance to pests and diseases, and multiple uses, has been studied extensively in Europe over the past three decades. Despite its potential, further research and promotion are needed to scale up camelina cultivation in Europe.

Kinetics of Polycondensation of Citric Acid with Glycerol Based on a Genetic Algorithm

Michal Wrzecionek et al.

Summary: Poly(glycerol citrate) is a biodegradable aliphatic polyester made of citric acid and glycerol. The polycondensation of citric acid with glycerol and its kinetics were studied through the kinetic model, allowing for estimation of relevant kinetic constants values for the first time with the employment of a genetic algorithm. Considerations on the competitiveness of various reactionary acts are presented, showing the multidimensional nature of the proposed kinetic model.
