Recent progress on selective hydrogenation of phenol toward cyclohexanone or cyclohexanol

Guangxin Xue et al.

Summary: Phenol is an important platform molecule for synthesizing valuable chemical intermediates and products. The selective hydrogenation of phenol towards cyclohexanone or cyclohexanol has attracted great interest, but industrial application remains challenging. This review summarizes recent progress in selective hydrogenation of phenol with different catalysts, discussing the relationship between active components, support type, and catalyst performance, as well as the possible reaction mechanism and scale-up methods. Potential challenges and future developments of metal nanocatalysts for selective hydrogenation of phenol are also proposed.

Bimetallic Cu-Ni Nanometal Supported over Mesocellular Silica Foam As a Novel Catalyst for One-Pot Synthesis of Benzimidazole in DMF As a Bifunctional Reagent

Shalaka S. Mohire et al.

Summary: In this study, we optimized a method for the one-pot synthesis of benzimidazole using a bimetallic catalyst supported by meso-cellular foam (MCF). The catalyst exhibited bifunctionality, allowing for the hydrogenation of o-nitroaniline to o-phenylenediamine (OPDA) and the cyclization of OPDA into benzimidazole. The use of a solvent mixture provided an in situ source of hydrogen and carbon dioxide, which played a significant role in the reaction. The synthesized catalyst was characterized and the reaction mechanism and kinetics were established.

Regulating the Surface Electronic Structure of RuNi Alloys for Boosting Alkaline Hydrogen Oxidation Electrocatalysis

Xiaojuan Zhang et al.

Summary: This study introduces ruthenium to regulate the surface electronic structure of nickel and optimize its electrocatalytic performance in hydrogen oxidation reactions. By constructing an interfacial-oxygen configuration, the adsorption energy for surface hydroxyl species is optimized. The experimental results show that electron transfer from nickel to ruthenium weakens the hydrogen binding energy and hydroxyl binding energy, leading to enhanced performance in hydrogen oxidation reactions. Additionally, the catalyst exhibits good tolerance towards CO, making it a promising electrocatalyst for hydrogen fuel cells.

A Highly Selective and Stable Ruthenium-Nickel Supported on Ceria Catalyst for Carbon Dioxide Methanation

Nathalie Elia et al.

Summary: Nickel and ruthenium impregnated cerium oxide catalysts were tested for methanation of carbon dioxide. Ruthenium improved catalytic performance and produced a stable catalyst. At high gas pressure, CO2 conversion was close to thermodynamic equilibrium with 100% selectivity towards CH4 formation.
